Oh, crap. Remember, the Subcontinent is nuclear. This might be unfortunate.

Just a reminder: those two could bring nukes to the party.

2013-01-15 05:08:41 PM
Is the nuclear missile plugged in?

2013-01-15 05:08:54 PM
Well this should be fun.

If they go to full-scale war and China gets nervous, we could have World War III all sewn up.

2013-01-15 05:09:13 PM
Combine this with the Senkaku Islands dispute, and shiat just got real. And the real thing that worries me is, Russia's possible stance.

For some protesters, who claimed to see the name of Allah in the clouds above Islamabad, the court's decision was a sign of divine intervention in favour of their sit-in, which began on Monday afternoon

These guys seem legit.

As long as the military keeps the nukes under lock and key...

That's about 2.17. Somehow I doubt that will be effective.

...What just happened? Are the people getting fed up with an asshole or is this an actual military coup? TFA was really unclear on any details...

/Sounded like a friggin' conspiracy-theory article. I don't care what someone has to say about how suspicious it is, pretend we're idiot Americans and give us some basic political background within the first few paragraphs.

Any oil in Pakistan?

I honestly never thought, even at the height of worldwide xenophobic bullshiat ten years ago, that I would see a newspaper from Western democracy say this: democracy could be derailed by the campaign of tens of thousands of anti-corruption protesters camped out on the streets outside parliament. It is a weird day when anti-corruption protesters in Pakistan are considered the enemies of democracy by an Anglophone newspaper.

Too bad we just spent the last decade spending all our money on fighting brown people for "democracy."

No, because they're India and Pakistan. It's not a happy relationship.

It must be Tuesday. Or Monday. Or any other day.

That would be refreshing.

Well, someone had to show Saddam what-for for trying to kill Poppy Bush. And if southern China gets farked up we'll have to start manufacturing Wal-Mart crap here in the States again.

They all just need to calm down as ask themselves "WWGD?"

The answer is: Starve.

So, what happens to world stability if we crash through the debt ceiling as well?

Further down we have this:
On Tuesday afternoon Qadri appeared to confirm many people's fears by heaping praise on the army and judges. He said: "There are only two institutions in Pakistan that are functioning and doing their duties of the people. One is the judiciary of Pakistan and one is the armed forces of Pakistan and nothing else."

Sounds right to me, if pro-military coup equals enemies of democracy.

I couldn't even find India in the article, where are you getting the Pakistan/India killing each other info from?

or something...

From what I can tell, the Prime Minister was legitimately corrupt, but the religious folk looking to swoop in will not make things any easier. Especially with India.

orderes?

meat0918: So, what happens to world stability if we crash through the debt ceiling as well?

Assuming that the US makes it through a possible WWIII fairly unscathed, the debt ceiling problem would be practically solved.

2013-01-15 05:14:56 PM
That's ok, the US has half our military conveniently parked right next door

No, because they're India and Pakistan. It's not a happy relationship.

It's a small Cold War: neither will fire due to mutual self destruction.

This is just another Tuesday for Pakistan. According to the article it's been run by the military before.

2013-01-15 05:16:07 PM
TFA: "heightening fears that the country's fragile democracy could be derailed by the campaign of tens of thousands of anti-corruption protesters"

If you want the anti-corruption protesters to go home quietly, it's not really the country's *democracy* you're afraid for. It's your friendly dictator and (quite likely) the right to use their airspace.
*Not* recognizing the rule of law in the face of tens of thousands of anti-corruption protesters sounds like it would be a far more grievous injury to their democracy.

2013-01-15 05:16:33 PM

HaywoodJablonski: So because they're brown, nukes are definitely happening? Got it

No, but the fact that Pakistan is a complete clusterfark of a country right now, with nukes, and fighting the only group of people they hate even anywhere near as much as America is worrying.

2013-01-15 05:16:54 PM
TFA: "the country's fragile democracy could be derailed by the campaign of tens of thousands of anti-corruption protesters camped out on the streets outside parliament."

Ahh yes. Wouldn't want to have democracy without corruption, would we? How the fark does anti-corruption protests derail a democracy? You'd think that would strengthen it's legitimacy.

// my money on India 5 to 2

2013-01-15 05:17:47 PM
I wonder if this will get out of hand and how likely we will be to survive.
