so, she's too stupid to figure out she's gone a little out of her way within the first couple of hours or so?  the fact that she had to stop for gas a couple of times didn't make her suspicious?

I blame the Schengen Agreement. If she had been asked for her passport, she would have saved a lot of effort.

FTAC "It's not THAT weird. I heard about this Italian guy who set out from Spain toward India, started off in the opposite direction, got to a place, and was so distracted by his quest to evangelize that he never totally realized he wasn't in India. Could happen to anyone."

I laughed.

Zarquon's Flat Tire: So now I'm curious, where was the GPS trying to take her?

Article said she was going to a train station. I'd guess that the train station she went to in Zagreb had the same or a similar name to the one she wanted in Brussels

ah. I had one take me about 30 miles the wrong way and said I had arrived at my destination under a railway overpass. Never trusted a TomTom again (not mine, my ex's).

Pretty much. There's no way a rational person wouldn't realize they'd gone awry by the time they had to pull over and catch some sleep in their car.

It's called dementia.

I wonder what happened to her friend at the train station. I'm picturing Bart waiting for Homer in the rain after soccer practice.

Poorly sourced article is poorly sourced.

This. Break down of the pathway between long term and short term memory results in confusion and 'distraction' that makes it so she forgets where she was going in relation to where she is. When driving, this sometimes results in a person just keeps on going down the road.

There was a case here a few months ago of a man who was going literally around the corner to his son's house, and ended up driving in circles in a large parking lot 500 miles away.

She'll never be able to drive again.

'Complele lack of attention'

Back in the early 90's, some guy managed to drive from Yuma,Arizona and head East.
He ended up in San Diego..The cops found him parked on the freeway, completely perplexed.

One of my college friends' girlfriends once asked him, "Dan, is there a Harrisburg in New Jersey?"

No, sweetie. No there isn't.

If you can't tell the difference between 90 miles driven and 900, you shouldn't be driving.

Belgians despise waffles, and instead use their 'waffle irons' to create a charred, savory dish of hardened bagels dunked in yogurt and orange juice, served with a box of cereal and small amount of half-and-half. We call it "Continental" style, but the American preparation omits the scalded yogurt and typically uses a toaster for the bagel. Some American hotels serve a lightly sweetened egg and flour milkshake.

Not so bad, at least she stayed on the same continent.

Not as bad but I will admit to driving 90 miles the wrong way on the way home from a business trip. Was in Kearney NE and wasn't paying attention when I turned onto I80. Made it 2/3 of the way to Colorado before I noticed I was going west instead of east.

In my defense, 90 miles west of Kearney looks awful similar to 90 miles east of Kearney.
