No that is even more old school than whiskey subby. I used to work at a historic park with homes and businesses from the 1800's and the Dr.s office was full of old boxes labelled to be used for everything from the vapors to colicky babies and many of them contained laudanum, essence of poppy or tincture of opium

Well, cocaine made the little bestige WAY too energetic

I find if the baby won't stop screaming, heroin relieves the tension. I still don't know what to do about the baby though.

Cause it makes me feel like I'm a mom
When I put the smack into my babe
And I'll tell ya, he's not quite the same
It's a mainline to my shame

totally old school. My grandfather tells me of his mom giving them all spoons of opium at night to get them to sleep on occasion.

Cocaine was used for that 100 or so years back.

Why would you put it on the gums? Its not a topical anesthetic. If you wanted faster absorption, you'd likely have to place it sublingually.

What, exactly, do you think heroin does?

2013-01-15 03:43:46 PM
When I was quite young, cough syrup at our house was a few tablespoons of orange juice with a little whisky and honey.

But let's NOT dose our babies with heroin, they stopped that for a reason.....along with opium, cocaine, laudanum, etc.

My son had his first tooth by 4 months, and almost a whole mouth full by 12 months (which is why my wife gave up breastfeeding by 6 months). We used Crown Royal for teething, kept a small bottle (mini-fridge size) in the diaper bag as well. Just wet your finger with it, and rub it on the gums. Worked like a charm. He also seemed to enjoy the taste of it as well.

My daughter on the other hand doesn't like the taste. Of course, she is an evil little ginger with the lungs of an opera singer and the disposition of a honey badger (I still love her with every fiber of my being, but I won't deny that she is a terror, the red hair goes down to the bone) so nothing really helps her anyway....

/she is getting better though

Well, that gives a new meaning to the phrase 'smack your lips'

I don't think that's the more common definition for the word I used. Besides, it'd be a pain to teach the child how to insufflate it, so what choice do you have?

Paregoric Baby here, also.
My first child's pediatrician (in the 70's) told me to dunk her pacifier in a shot of whiskey, drink the rest...and we'd both be fine.
In recovery now...many, many years. nttawwt

I had chronic bronchitis as an infant (and as a child too). The pediatrician prescribed whiskey, honey, and lemon mixed with water in a bottle to relieve the symptoms. I'm sure my mom changed the dosage depending on how cranky I was.
