Crudbucket: I believe the record will reflect that I called "dibs" on Miss Kendrick almost a year ago. Everyone else, please vacate this thread.

Until we can fully research your claim, we'll have to place Miss Kendrick in a safe place until we can actually determine who has, in fact, dibs.

my place is pretty safe

Mad_Radhu: xcv: Mad_Radhu: Also, speaking of vampires, the glow-in-the-dark variety is much better than sparkly. I've recently really been enjoying this series, where the author put a lot of thought into vampires and how they might realistically work.

Still bothered by the author apparently put zero thought into why modern technology sitting in the wasteland for a century works perfectly whenever characters need it. Or any exposition on why a principle character is magical before any plot development occurs.

That was a little bit of a stretch, but there was at least an attempt to keep it sorta plausible. They used some century old Humvees that were stored in a bunker, but getting them to work required a week of cannibalizing parts from various vehicles and replacing the rubber bits that rotted away. There were some modern guns that they also found, but those were stored properly in a desert environment, so I don't think there would be anything that would cause them to rust, and I think gunpower is pretty stable if stored properly as well. The two things that really struck me as dubious in regards to tech working magically was the fuel not going bad after all that time (diesel especially has a short shelf life), and the repaired train not getting derailed after a going a mile down the track because of the rail lines were not maintained properly for nearly a century.

I just didnt like the fact that it turned into a pseudo religion book toward the end. didnt see that crap coming. No thanks to the other 2 if itll be like that. Also the epilogue with sara? unnecessary.

/was a little bit ago i read it
//good book nonetheless.

douchebag/hater: I was all set to have a full-on crush with her but at her Instagram site it turns out she is friends with that chick from 'Girls' - the fat, plain one with the bad tattoos.

'Girls' is terrible, this chick a leftist hack too young and stupid to know what she's talking about.

You mean Lena Dunham, the cute woman with the nice tattoos from children's literature?

I saw her on Conan a couple of months ago. She is very intelligent and quick witted. She had the audience laughing non stop.

Yeah, it got a bit spiritual towards the end, but for me I kind of thought it worked with the apocalyptic nature of the story. I'm a terribly non-spritual person, but to me it really didn't seem any worse than The Stand or the new Battlestar Galactica as far as the religious aspect goes. Also, from the standpoint of making the story work, if you didn't have the implication that a godlike being was moving the characters around the chess board, the coincidences of important characters running into each other would have strained credulity.

Also, the epilogue was a bit of a downer, but it does actually serve the purpose of getting Sara where she needs to be for the the events of the second book.

Thread is probably dead, but I will go ahead anyway.

All the talk of "Pitch Perfect" being funny and good and all that jazz, this evening I procured it and proceeded to watch the film.

It sucks a bag of dicks. I don't say that lightly. I, only last night, in a fit of nostalgia, watched "Encino Man" and enjoyed it more than this one.

You guys are so mean, I took you seriously!

Fantastic film, 50/50. If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself.

Are you sure? Because it would have to be pretty good to get an exemption from my policy of not watching anything with Seth Rogen in it.

Ehh, I wouldn't rec if you're repulsed by him; Rogen plays himself again in this one

Well Seth Rogen wasn't in it for too long. I'm thinking maybe if you clocked his whole screen time it would probably be 20 minutes total. You can't help but be drawn in by JGL in their scenes together.

I thought it was an awesome movie, either way. You wanna go to the movies together?

Given that the chick is the creator of the show, it's a smart play. If Anna gets a recurring guest role on that show, it's an almost certain Emmy nomination (In case you haven't noticed, HBO does pretty well during awards seasons)

As for your, "I'd have a crush, but" argument, well....

I meant that as a positive thing. That she doesn't look like she went through a drug run meat grinder and come out the other end or get a botched nose job.

That pic is unusual. No jewelry. Plain nails. She almost looks like a girl playing dress-up. Except for teh bewbs.

Her interviews with Craig Ferguson are on youtube. Seems like a great girl with the holy trinity: hot, sweet, smart.

Absolutely. No snark, no sarcasm. Fantastic freaking film.

Did you know the movie is based on the writer's actual life experience? And Seth Rogen essentially plays himself, as he was friends with the writer while he was going through the whole cancer ordeal; and his character is based on himself.
