Denying a guy a cigar is pretty harsh.

"The reason we had it on the Web site to begin with was because that was the No. 1 inquiry from the public," she said.

So who the hell are these few people who are demanding it be removed, and why does their opinion out-weigh the rest of us?

I occasionally visited their site to read over the last meal requests and last words of those executed. Morbid, yes. But as someone else once said, a person's last meal is usually food that takes them back to happier times. In that regard, it's a fascinating glimpse into the person's past, family and social upbringing.

As for last words, which you can still read, that's interesting because some guys say the damnest things before they flick the switch. "I deserve this. Tell everyone I said goodbye." That's good stuff.

I hate links about the end of something interesting. They always leave you wanting to sample the good stuff. I now have a burning desire to know all the last meal details of every death row inmate, but can't see them. Link anybody?

/too many lunchtime drinkies

jay_vee, not sure if this will work but here you go:Google cached version.

Those last statements are without question the saddest thing I've ever read. Especially the ones where the victims family forgive them. A lot of those guys really do seem to have changed.

They started out as monsters and by the time we get around to killing them they aren't monsters anymore. At least they had the time to develop into human beings.

Thanks, Spin_Doc.

Cool Whip and Cherries. Now there's a last meal.

Very few veggies in there I notice, but there are a few.

haha, only in america can this be an No 1 inquiry.

I really found the last requests to be interesting. I think of them as an insight into the mind of a person who knows they're going to die, and like Spin_Doc said, it's usually food they enjoyed in happier times. Maybe that last meal request is a small way to reclaim one moment of peace and control before you bite the bullet.

2003-12-12 10:21:45 AM
Hmm. Wonder why some of these people request diet coke with their last meal. They obviously don't have to worry about their weight...

2003-12-12 10:22:51 AM
Four fried chickens and a Coke.

2003-12-12 10:25:43 AM
These guys are really pigging out.

Also, I know what some of them are thinking, and it doesn't work. They're thinking that after eating a lot of food, there will be some serious bowel vacancy when they're executed. I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way.

2003-12-12 10:25:54 AM
It's going to be kind of weird to see what one Death Row inmate says and eats when he goes.

http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/stat/littleleo.htm

I was friends with this guy in middle school. This was a particularly grizzly murder he committed.

Those last statements were pretty sad. I didn't read through all of them but I was hoping to see something like Scarface from Half Baked said when he quit the burger place. Fark You, Fark You, Fark You, You're Cool, I'm out.

2003-12-12 10:28:40 AM
After skimming Spin_Doc's cached link, I thought it was interesting how the one guy requested the same meal that was served to the other inmates in the main dining room.

My last meal would be a sack of White Castle cheeseburgers; Huevos Rancheros (Red) from Casa de Menudo in Las Cruces, NM; a 20 oz. RC Cola and a large pizza from Reale's in Austin, TX.

My last words would be, "BLLURRRLLAGGHHHPH"

2003-12-12 10:30:18 AM
If they stopped giving those inmates their last meal, they could save hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars a year.

I'm looking out for you wallet, Texas taxpayers

And the funny thing is, Jim Varney died from lung cancer caused by smoking. Know whut I mean, Vern?

King of the Hill did it!

There were some great holiday food ideas on that website. I'll miss it.

2003-12-12 10:34:33 AM
goddamnit! why are people such pussies?

i don't understand how we can have the powere to execute people but not read about the details? i'm sure these same people that objected to it are the ones that don't agree with the death penalty. so i guess we should do away with that, too?

people need to grow some balls and mind their own business.

heres a decent site

If I'm ever executed, as soon as they put in the IV, I'm going to start screaming, and I'll scream as long as I can. Just to fark with the witnesses heads.

DirkValentine:

First, the criminal justice system is everyone's business. So why don't we put all executions on TV?

2003-12-12 10:36:11 AM
Don't mean to be soft on criminals, but I think it would be decent to give them some booze and some smokes.

2003-12-12 10:25:43 AM Queen Mushroom

These guys are really pigging out.

You think they should be watching their figures?

2003-12-12 10:36:16 AM
I think they should allow the cigar. They have the guy pretty much isolated from anyone else on that last night. If they have to deal with the "secondhand smoke issue" they could simply make sure any guards posted smoke as well.

2003-12-12 10:37:15 AM
It is sad our society is so overly sensitive that one person can ruin it for the rest. I hate political correctness which places feelings above all else

2003-12-12 10:37:48 AM
And yeah Lebowsky, a drink wouldn't be out of line either.

2003-12-12 10:38:02 AM
Does anyone else think this chick on the left panel here resembles Dru???

2003-12-12 10:38:05 AM
"Show me" - i didn't know that, this thread is filled with the stink of death.

2003-12-12 10:40:40 AM
The death penalty itself is in bad taste!

2003-12-12 10:40:51 AM
Best Last Words:

John Wheat:

"I deeply regret what happened. I did not intentionally or knowingly harm anyone. That's it and didmau. (Vietnamese for let's get out of here.)"

William Davis:

"Oh, I would like to say in closing, "What about those cowboys?""

Patrick Rogers:

"All of the brothers on the row stay strong. (Some words about Allah that I couldnt understand.)...
(some more Allah mumbling)"

2003-12-12 10:42:30 AM
It was interesting to note how many asked for fried chicken. Probably hoping for something just like Mom used to make. I wonder if what they got was as good as they were hoping?

2003-12-12 10:44:43 AM
"I would like to thank one of the arresting officers that I would have killed if I could have."

- Larry Hayes, Execution 310

2003-12-12 10:45:09 AM
Bad taste? What the hell? People have the gall to buy into a system that allows the state-sponsored murder of individuals and then complain about BAD TASTE?

wankers

2003-12-12 10:45:20 AM
2001 called, it wants it's website back.

2003-12-12 10:48:01 AM
What about buying into a system that sponsers the life of a murderer?

2003-12-12 10:48:08 AM
MorningBreath: If they stopped giving those inmates their last meal, they could save hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars a year.

If that's your concern, MorningBreath, then you'd advocate for getting rid of the Death Penalty entirely. Capital punishment is much more expensive than life in prisonment.
(Link goes to www.deathpenaltyinfo.org article on costs and opens as a new window.)

And you don't have to pay for the last meal.

2003-12-12 10:48:45 AM
If I were on deathrow I would have an everlasting gobstopper for my last meal.....and if it didn't last forever, I would posthumously sue Willy Wonka.

My last words would be "Damn your chocolate factory.....damn it all to hell!!!"

\No sense giving the victims family closure....they're still going to fry you.

2003-12-12 10:50:33 AM
I'd want a bunch of raw meat that will cook in my mouth when they turn on the juice. It would be like death-row fondue.

2003-12-12 10:50:41 AM
I would like to have a few E:s some space cake and a handfull och shrooms as my last meal.

2003-12-12 10:53:31 AM
I want fifty cents and a hard punch in the face.

"I am an African warrior, born to breathe and born to die."

mtt:- True. A good two thirds of them seem to be innocent.

2003-12-12 11:00:19 AM
"Actually, there are some people who wonder why this state even gives an inmate a last meal," Thornton added. "I've heard complaints about that - not the fact that we post it on our Web site."

THERE IS ALWAYS A LAST MEAL! Because if you deny them the Last Meal, then the meal before that becomes the last farking meal - You mouth-breathing knuckle draggers!

-unless of course, you refuse to provide any food at all once the condemned is sentenced as such...just saying...it would shorten the appeals process, anyway.

2003-12-12 11:05:55 AM
Actually Beeferoni, I am adamantly anti-death penalty. It is divisive and inhumane. I don't believe it is an appropriate deterrent or punishment.

2003-12-12 11:08:43 AM
No cigar? Come on... that is asinine. I don't smoke and I am pretty sure that this is a little to far. If he were to want something illegal I could see them having a problem with it. But a cheap cigar? Come on... indulge a little bit. Will it hurt him? If he gets cancer from it I can guarantee that it is not gonna be what kills him.

ASININE!!!!!

2003-12-12 11:08:53 AM
"I don't believe it is an appropriate deterrent or punishment."

I am for it in limited circumstances as an appropriate form of vengeance. Let's say someone rapes your daughter and cuts her up and throws the pieces in the river.

I think the state has an obligation to avenge her death, or to allow you to do it yourself, one or the other.
