"I don't know what to do," sighed Gene Rosen. "I'm getting hang up calls, I'm getting some calls, I'm getting emails with, not direct threats, but accusations that I'm lying, that I'm a crisis actor, 'how much am I being paid'?"

Well, he would say that.

Obama. Obama is what's wrong with people.
It's really just that simple.

Yeah, there have been voices from the Right saying within hours of the shooting that this was all staged, nobody was killed, and everyone's a paid actor.

Many things

I am a former 9/11 truther. I freely admit this and I never try to hide this.

Why was I one? TBH, I was a) accepting what crazy folks were saying was true without independent thought, b) wanting there to be more to explain what and why 9/11 happened, c) paranoid as shiat (just came back from Iraq in early 2006 when I became a truther), and d) cherry picked evidence to fit my preconceived notions. Right before the 9/11 truth movement I got in to reading about Danny Casolaro. Circumstances surrounding his death were and still are very fishy. Because of my research into him, I was introduced to the conspiracy theorists world.

I left that mindset two years later, prior to the 2008 elections. I am pretty damn bitter and angry about what happened. I was duped. I was a fool.

That's the disconnect that I find sad and amusing.  Not only can the government not do anything right (healthcare, postal service...) except for running a multi-generational scam to install Obama as President but when it comes to producing the one key piece of evidence (the birth certificate) they outsource that to an intern, producing a document that is easily dismantled and debunked.

No, he's pointing out the ridiculousness of the conspiracy complaint (if it was all faked, why would the government re-use actors? It's not like they don't effectively have INFINITY DOLLARS)

The wierd thing is that surely the simplest thing is to look at who gains....

How does the government gain from repealing the 2nd amendment? Do the US not tax guns or ammunition? From a purely financial view (which I thought was the thruthers reason for 9/11) I'm assuming here, but I'd imagine that the US government makes a pretty decent amount of tax from firearms and ammunition.

The Muthaship: What did he say that people took offense to? I couldn't find it in TFA.

He makes the absurd claim that Sandy Hook is not a complete and total hoax, and that real people died- children- because of an armed lunatic. Like anybody could believe that, when the completely rational explanation is that the government staged the entire event so that they could stamp out private firearm ownership.

cman: I am a former 9/11 truther. I freely admit this and I never try to hide this.

I've had my own nutball beliefs, too. It's really easy to get swallowed up in conspiracy nuttery once you accept a handful of initial premises. Your critical brain checks out and everything starts adding up to the picture you want to see. Sure, the puzzle has a picture of a kitten playing with yarn on the box, but that's just what they want you to think. When I arrange the same pieces this way, it doesn't look anything at all like a kitten- it's a map of the top secret base at Montauk Point!

--

Also, let us grant that the government is so Machiavellian that they staged the Sandy Hook shooting. Why would they use fake actors and thus increase their risk of exposure? Why not just actually kill children. We've already decided that the government is going to do evil and perpetrate a hoax on the American public- why would we suddenly expect them to be squeamish about the body count?

2013-01-15 09:21:54 AM
This is gonna come out wrong, but fark it:

First, fark all the opportunists who are pushing all their crackpot theories of this being staged. People lost their children in one of the most gruesome events of my generation.

That said, I appreciate that there are people out there (like Jesse Ventura, etc.) who aren't afraid to at least question things (even if the questions are batshiat insane)

Additionally, anyone who knows Gene, knows that he's been hamming it up throughout this whole ordeal. There was an inside joke that we were all wondering when he was going on Oprah.

However, no, I'm not condoning any form of harassment.

cookiefleck: so if it never happened, where did all those little kids go?

OBVIOUSLY they never existed, any kids or adults who claims they knew them is a paid actor. The dead adults are now in the witness protection program.

If the government was as vicious and underhanded as these nutcases would suggest, then:

The shooters mom was being held captive, he was told to go shootup the school and then himself, or they would kill his mom. he would have a explosive device attached to make sure he carried it out, and given drugs to deaden emotions. once he left they shot his mom.

There would be no actors or any of that, just one highly placed well funded agent who can reason things out and judge people. Heck maybe the portland shooting was supposed to be more impressive. But the guy couldnt kill others, and thought one or two was enough.

They are just moronic. Seriously.

FTA: "And I thought of an expression, that this 'adds insult to injury,' but that's a stupid expression, because this is not an injury, this is an abomination."

This adds insult to abomination? I dunno, is the fact that a phrase is inadequate to describe whatever it is that you're trying to describe a failure of the phrase itself, or the writer?

FTA: "...how dare he impugned our credibility..."

That's some great journalism there Lou.

FTA: "I don't know what to do," sighed Gene Rosen.

You know, I feel bad that this guy is getting crap from stupid people for being a decent person to the kids, I certainly feel bad that he's being harassed.

For the people saying stupid crap and the feeling angry about it, well, there's usually just no better solution to that than to ignore the stupid people saying it. Or, at the very least, not so much take it to heart.

The harassment? This would be a matter to take up with the police I guess.

Yes, people suck. I get it.

I really wish there was a way to get through to these people. A few people I work with, everyday with the e-mails and blogs trying to convince me about chemtrails, fluoride, vaccines, Sitchen's 12th planet. They're good people otherwise but holy hell I'm so tired of it, I've been thinking of asking to travel. I let one of them listen to one of The Skeptics' Guide To The Universe podcasts about confirmation bias and logical fallacies and he came UNGLUED.

"What!! How dare they just dismiss these theories!! How do they know?!! They weren't there!!"

I still can't get them to answer how is it that there's this secret organization that has their fingers in every single event going on in the world, yet they can't seem to stop information about themselves from being released?

Just because crazy people have the right to express themselves doesn't mean we have to pay any attention when they do.

It's completely absurd that any one or any entity should have to go on the defensive about Sandy Hook ever occurring.

Even an awkward smile and nod while slowly backing up from these folks is loaning them too much credibility.
