Well obviously...

2013-01-15 08:19:57 AM
It can lead to wacky situations where you give your opponents 98% of what they want and still have them scuttle the deal though. That comes with its own rewards.

FTFA: For one thing, Republicans who hail from conservative districts and states could get in trouble with their voters if they are seen as "too chummy" with the Democratic president.

To be fair, this isn't quite the same thing as the liberal critique of Obama. He's talking about being nice on a personal level, not policy compromise.

We're not really nice on a personal level to republicans around here. We might even be a little mean.

And yet Reagan and Clinton were both able to work with a Congress of the other party's control. Even George W. Bush got NCLB passed with bipartisan support in agreement with Ted Kennedy.

Are you saying Obama is stupider than George W. Bush?

The Beltway media thinks to themselves... "nah, that's not really what he meant. Surely a few more dinner parties (with us invited) and this crisis will be solved by Congress like the gentlemen they are."

We just want Obama to understand that the Republicans were never interested in a compromise or in full faith negotiations and should be approached with that in mind.

yeah, i know, they seem to want to cut 300 billion out in 10 years even those are draconian cuts to progressives. I would cut all foreign aid, maybe we dont need to spend 100mil on an aquarium in Brazil.stop funding stupid univerisity studies.
examples: The federal government has shelled out $3 million to researchers at the University of California at Irvine to fund their research on video games such as World of Warcraft.

The Department of Health and Human Services plans to spend $500 million on a program that will, among other things, seek to solve the problem of 5-year-old children that "can't sit still" in a kindergarten classroom.

So your big, serious deficit reduction plan is to cut 0.01% of the Federal Budget.

Though I anticipate your response to this will be something along the lines of "If we only got rid of the government the power of wealth would evaporate."

So you embrace the two sided oligarch coin.

Or you're one of those doofuses who think that the "Oligarchs" wouldn't be able to replace the government protecting their property with violence with a private body that's not even answerablr to a democratic process even more brutally protecting their property with violence if we didn't use the magic word "Government" anymore.

I'm going with 2, after reading your book list.

I almost drove off the road during the recent Obama press conference when some airhead journalist was insinuating that Obama was not partying enough with the Republicans and was not getting out more. The teabillies have been screeching every time the Obamas leave the house and how many MILLIONS AND BILLIONS of dollars each trip to Costco or Hawaii or the opera cost the suffering tax payers.

What do you assholes want? Do you want him to stay home or go out? You can't have it both ways.

SgtArkie is the type of person that would have no problem with a Republican led, authoritarian government. Just so long as he gets to be one of the jackbooted thugs.

They want all the power of the government, the privledge to never be questioned when they re-write history and frame the argument, and an apology for the ongoing uppityness that prevents them from having those things, which are their god given right.

My military senses tell me that he's more like the "JBT Support group" type. Since he's wearing a Combat Action Badge instead of a Combat Infantryman's Badge. Probably a mechanic or the like.

Either way, no one but him is fooled by the crypto-authoritarian doublespeak.
