Glad that crackhead is on the list.  What a disappointment.

I went to Devil Rays games in the very first season. I had to pull out my kids size Devil Rays hat to prove I wasnt a bandwagon jumper when they became a playoff team recently.

My god those teams were terrible. But Tropacana field had an Outback Steakhouse concession stand, which meant I could enjoy terrible baseball with a Bloomin Onion.

Wow, you've been driving across the bridge for that long? How can you stand it?

Not, just any bridge. Here's the bridge in question that so trrifies the residents of central Florida:

The one thing I miss from the Devil Rays era: The uniforms they went to after the godawful original ones. It was nice to have another non-blue-or-red team.

Agreed. I still wear my old green D-Ray hat proudly. Sure it's a little beat up and frayed around the brim, but I don't care.

Patience at the plate is a great thing, but if anyone ever asks if there's such a thing as too much of it, the answer is "yes, and Exhibit A is Ben Grieve." Grieve had some of the very lowest O-Swing%'s and Z-Swing%'s in all of baseball -- or, in more common parlance, he was what they call a "looker." One of the best aspects of patience in a gifted power hitter (which is what Grieve was) is the ability to get those 3-1 counts where the pitcher has to throw it down the pipe and you can really rip that farker. That's how many of the great ones do it. But Grieve too frequently watched the meatballs go by, turning those 3-1 counts into 3-2 counts, and often got caught looking after that.

Where is Jason Tyner? The bobblehead fiasco alone should cement his legacy.

I thought that team was going to be sold for scrap within 10 years. The Rays-Yankees game at the end of the 2011 season was one of the best I've ever seen.

McGriff squandered his legacy playing for that team

zerkalo: McGriff squandered his legacy playing for that team

Looking at his stats he played pretty well overall in his 1st stint (not his last year when he came back at 40). He was actually a beast for them in '99 and the part of '01 before he got traded. Plus he was from the area.

I'm happy for him and BJ. it sucks that we don't have the payroll to take care of them ourselves, but they earned every dollar they made in free agency this year.
