What a weiner.

When I was younger, it was generally said you only need the Flu shot if you're young, or old.  I'm 34, so I'm not in the age bracket that was previously encouraged not to get the Flu shot.  Now apparently people are saying everyone should get a Flu shot.  And I find myself wondering why.

Has the Flu become particularly deadly over the years, or something?  I have had the Flu twice in my life, and I survived.  Just takes a few days in bed in a Nyquil coma.  But now my Mother is nagging me saying I should get one, telling me stories like, "I heard on the news about how this 44 year old man got the Flu, and DIED!"

I guess I need to re-educate myself on this issue.

Herd immunity. Also it sucks to get the flu.

If a $20 shot can reduce your chance of catching the flu dramatically, why wouldn't you go get it? My younger brother had open heart surgery as an infant, so to help protect him, the entire family always got the shot every year. I've never seen a good reason why I wouldn't continue to do that.

Herd immunity. In some people who need the shot, they either can't take it (allergies) or it doesn't 'take'. Even if it does take, a vaccine can be overwhelmed if there's a large enough viral load (sort of like how sand dunes are better to have between you and the beach than NOTHING, but if the storm surge is high enough, those sand dunes can get overwhelmed).

I think the flu is getting more aggressive these days. I've had it four times in the last four years. Not necessarily annually.

Supposedly, the new swine flus / bird flus that the media is in a kerfluffle about every year, they hit the young-and-strong surprisingly hard. Kind of like the Spanish Flu did.

I used to get the flu for a week every year, until I started getting the flu shot. Best. Thing. Ever. Maybe it's not for everyone, but apparently my immune system is shiatty and needed a kick in the pants.

No, it has always been deadly, 10's of thousands of people have died in the US from the flu every year for as long as we have been keeping track.  The flu sucks.

Because WHAARGARBL THE GUBERMINT IS USING FLU VACCINES TO INJECT US WITH TRACKING CHIPS

Alternatively, WHAARGARBL I DON'T HAVE THE FLU SO I DON'T NEED A SHOT BECAUSE THAT'S HOW VACCINES WORK

I don't generally often agree with ultra conservatives like this fella. But in this case, he's actually correct enough to not deserve the durbnpoisn.comli.com tag.
He pointed out very clearly that the flu shot is really just a statistical geussing game. They choose 5 strains out of over 250. Those are the ones that make the cut. So far they were correct on 2 and incorrect on 1.

Not to mention all the other chemicals in the mix.

My wife and I decided years ago to not get the flu shot. We still think it's the right decision. Even with this current outbreak going on, we have pretty well decided to just wash our hands more - and make sure the kids do the same.

So? If his viewers take his advice against their doctors and they die then they earned it. Just like parents who didn't vaccinate their kids because they listened to the Playboy playmate over their doctors earned their child's death. Personal responsibility, how does work?

Unfortunately getting the vaccine not only protects you it protects others that it didn't work on. Otherwise I'd just say let these idiots just not get vaccinated and whatever happens happens. They should really just form small communities where nobody gets vaccinated, then the problem should solve itself pretty quickly.

Michael Savage had a huge dose of truth he shared about five years ago. Now he's tripped out right into insanity. He needs to retire in a condo with Rush in Haiti or something, sip margaritas the rest of his days.

If the kind of people that listen to Michael Savage want to stop getting vaccinated against common diseases, the loss of herd immunity is the only downside I can see.

Same here. For years I didn't get the flu. Then I go a high stress job and I was getting at least twice a year. The shot helped reduce that number. On particularly stressful nights when I would work 24-48 hours without eating or sleeping I would get sick (naturally), but I could usually bounce back faster.

I've since changed jobs to a considerably less stressful job, but I'll still get my flu shot every year. it's offered for free through my insurance and is given out at work. It doesn't hurt that banked sick days can be partially rolled over into vacation time.

About ten or fifteen years ago they did a test. As you said in the past they normally only vaccinated those with severe health risks but in this test they also vaccinated grade school children. The number of deaths and hospitalizations dropped among those at risk. It is good to be protected, it is better to not be exposed.

You're right, this year the flu shot is only good against the A strain which makes up only 90% of the cases. Also even if you get the flu shot it is only 62% effect against the A strain (may reduce severity of flu if you get it) so if it isn't 100% effect it must be a scam

Well, given that enough people who I trust (family / friends) and enough people who I doubt are full of shiat (Farkers) have been telling me a Flu shot may be a wise decision, I guess I'll google some good sources of info and see if I should get the shot or not.

At the moment, I'm leaning more towards yes.

He's referring to the structure of the ancient (?) Chinese empire. Been too long since I studied that, can't remember when it was, but it was a name given to several different ranks of public officials. Poor attempt by Dr. Savage (yeah, listen to his show) to foist his "superior" intellect into the discussion.

I certainly don't get the fear of the flu shot. My arm hurts for a while, I usually get the sniffles the next day...then that's it for the whole winter. Bonus: I get mine free through my employer.

The vaccine, he pointed out, contains formaldehyde and thimerosal - an organic compound containing mercury, which impairs the neurological and immune systems - along with detergents, antibiotics and allergens that cause infertility.
