Nice reading comprehension you've got there, subby

Its funny how everything Romney and the Republicans said would happen, and were portrayed as crazy and out of touch for making such statements, has come true like this or Obama coming for our guns; but things that Obama said - like he wouldn't raise taxes or that Obamacare wasn't a tax or that you could keep your plan and your doctor under Obamacare (my company had to switch to entirely different plans this year as a result of this law, as did most others, with a completely different set of covered doctors), or that we would have five days to read new legislation, or that there would be transparency from his admin - and was never questioned, have been patent lies.

Well, it isn't NOW, since Jeep is just NOW deciding to build in China. For the Chinese. And the Russians.

2013-01-15 08:46:15 AM
Uh, no, subby.

They are adding jobs in China and Russia for those markets. Romney was making it sound like they were closing up the US plants and moving ALL manufacturing operations there.

Romney's still a farkin' liar. Case closed.

If I recall correctly, the Chinese require domestic product to be built domestically.

Building product for the market does not equal shifting production.

You're still crazy and out of touch

Romney claimed that Jeep was going to MOVE PRODUCTION from Ohio to China.  That is a lie.  Jeep is producing vehicles in China for that area of the world.  It makes financial sense for Jeep to build closer to where the vehicles will be sold but I'm sure subby is too farking stupid to realize the nuances of manufacturing or even reading comprehension.

Pretty sure this is a troll, but you may want to rethink your claim that "most" companies had to change insurers this year as a result of the law. Plus, is it really that unusual for a company to switch insurers? Been my experience that they shop around every year and choose the best option (which is often but isn't always the same place.)

Romney said Obama was coming for our guns? Citation needed, because he hasn't and will not. But you should totally go out and buy more guns because, well, stoking irrational fear isn't cheap and the gun industry needs a return on investment.

Obama has raised taxes? You have a fundamental ignorance of the constitution. Try reading it sometime, especially the part on what branch puts out tax legislation.

And your company changed providers? How nice of you to blame Obama for what your company wants to do on the cheap. My company changed providers a few years ago also, Obamacare must have been enacted then too. Unless your company just enrolled you in medicare, its the insurance company who is deciding what doctors you can chose from, but hey imaginary boogie men are convenient when u got nothin'. Of course you can always shop the market for your own insurance, or is Obama stopping you from doing that as well.

I love that your issues with Obama are either idiotic or completely non-starters, but your hold up one point from Romney that is still not true (this is for local sale and not a shift in production).

To add, raising the payroll tax back to what it was in 2009 after Obama lowered it doesn't seem to conflict with his statement of not raising taxes as stated in early 2008. Also, your anecdote about obamacare is pointless. Literally, it is without point.

2013-01-15 09:04:15 AM
The point Romney made was that the jobs would leave the US for other countries. Jeep has said before that, depending on the country, they build locally. Whatever jobs were in the US were staying in the US while expansion in other countries was normal. Romney was flame-baiting by saying that American all Jeep jobs would be exported and all production was moving to other countries, which is patently false. The cars made for US markets would stay while there was always the possibility that overseas markets would be served locally.

This. Glad someone was paying attention. Romney said that Chrysler was going to ship jobs overseas, when in reality they were going to keep all current jobs here but build new factories in China for the Chinese market.

And for those who don't follow the automotive news closely, TFA is totally consistent with what Marchionne said he was going to do back in October and November. This was already planned, and was already public information. Romney just chose to totally lie about it in an effort to smear an industry that employs unionized labor.

It sure does. You assume moving means taking everything you have, packing it up, and reinstalling it there. Jeep is taking some of their assets, and moving them to China to build Jeeps that could be built here by Americans, and shipped over there.

Ever hear of the Tata Nano? It's an Indian made car that debuted in 2009 and sold for $2500 in India. When it comes to the states it'll be sold for $8000, mostly because in the US we require luxuries like, heat and not bursting into flames. So yeah, in order to compete in foreign markets, car makers might just have to produce cars in foreign countries. I really don't think America is going to be competing in the sub-$3000 dollar car market any time soon.

Because conservatives do not have any long term memory and can not remember when this came out back in what October?

Seriously, the only thing I noticed when I skimmed the article that was new to me was the part of also building in Russia, the rest of what I noticed was exactly what Romney got called on to make it "Lie of the Year".

plc5_250: If I recall correctly, the Chinese require domestic product to be built domestically.

Not quite, but effectively so. The tariff on imported completed vehicles is north of 250%. There are a handful of millionaire Chinese businessmen who will pay $400k (or a somewhat smaller bribe than that to the right guy) to import a genuine German-built Benz. But, overwhelmingly, nearly every Buick, Benz, and BMW in China is built in China.

The thing most people don't understand is that this is entirely permitted under WTO/GATT rules. As long as Japanese/German/American cars all face the exact same import tariff on the same category of product, it's kosher.

Now, China has much lower tariff rates on things they can't make enough of themselves (food, paper, oil). And Boeings/Airbuses (Chinese people who can afford to fly ain't getting in Chinese-made planes).

/ gotta love our "free trade partners"

Commence the re-writing of history (fully updated in the conservapedia of course)!

Everyone knew at the time that they were building factories in China, the point was that 1) those cars are not for the US market 2) Jeep/Chrysler actually increased and were planning to increase further manufacturing jobs in the U.S..

So Romney saying that they were moving jobs to China, reducing manufacturing jobs in the U.S. and implying that Jeeps were no longer going to be made in the U.S. were lies.

This was all analysed by fact checkers when they called it (rightfully so) the "lie of the year".

"Jeep currently exports U.S.-made vehicles to China, which is Jeep's largest market outside of North America. Last year, Jeep sold 22,294 vehicles in China. The company is expected to exceed that this year. But the vehicles it sells there face steep tariffs that can drive up their price significantly."
