I guess that means R2D2 isn't going to be killed off for shock value.

2013-01-15 09:49:56 AM
Well, if it ever airs on Fox, this will increase the chance of the entire movie being broadcast.

Ha
like whedon has "millions of fans"

that explains why everything he does other than "cheesy vampire theater" and "superhero sequel cash-in" fails immediately

Meh. It would've been cool, but I'd like to see someone else do it.

What's Peter Jackson up to these days? Or Neil Blomkamp?

2013-01-15 10:18:45 AM
But what about Quentin Tarantino or Oliver Stone?

serial_crusher: Well, if it ever airs on Fox, this will increase the chance of the entire movie being broadcast.

If it were on Fox, we would see episode 10 first (originally not intended, but Fox demanded a new episode to start out with), then the second half of episode 9, followed by the first half of episode 8, then the first half of episode 9 (but preempted by football), and then the rest of episode 8. After a year, episode 7 would finally show up on another network.

Peter Jackson is still being a one trick pony. Neil is off doing thoughtful sci fi.

Also, pretty happy no joss on this one.

Jealousy is an ugly thing, kids.

Kathryn Bigelow. Why not?

If I were Joss, I'd kill Luke in Reel 1 of SW7: The Search for More Money.

// it's not like Jedi "die", anyway
// and Joss loves him some main-character-killin', best get it out of the way up front
// also, it'd mean the series can focus on someone less whiny
// though "whiny protagonist" is SW's hallmark

Oh, and before any of you come back with the typical, "I'm not jealous, Whedon just sucks!"...yes, you are jealous. That's why you hopped in here to tell everyone how much you don't like him.

I like Whedon but he isn't right for the feel. Neither is Snyder.

Get the guy who did SKY CAPTAIN.

Bwhahahahaha!

The problem is that when he does anything other then "cheesy vampire theater" and "super hero sequel cash-in" it is to smart to be liked. Firefly and Dollhouse were both great science fiction, but the little people were too stupid to understand that at the time. His take on Wonder Woman would have been a massive hit, but the studio was populated by people who could not understand his vision.

It is not that Josh Whedon is a failure it is that you are too stupid to understand his genius, unless he dumbs it down.

At this point ANYONE is better than Lucas, and Joss Whedon's scripts are too self-aware. In the Avengers, at times it felt like I was watching actors having fun playing superhero characters, and not superheroes.

We need the opposite of campy in-humor.

It's STAR WARS. Campy visuals are what define it. Well that and bad scripts, wooden acting, and ham-fisted political commentary.

You're goddamn right. I want things moving so fast, I can't even see them, and then -- 'sploshun! I mean, I want Death Stars everywhere 'splodin! Droids 'splodin! Jedi 'splodin! Cute little ewoks 'splodin! Gungans getting by peaceably and exchanging dialog.

2013-01-15 11:04:54 AM
Anyone else think Ridley Scott would be a good choice? The guy likes sci-fi and can create a spectacle like few others can. He's a good director, and for all the problems in Prometheus, acting and special effects weren't any of them. I think the biggest problems in the Star Wars prequels was the terrible acting and dialogue. The Director's not going to be writing the dialogue and I'm sure someone else is going to screenwrite the story. So basically what any new star wars movie is going to need from the director is someone who knows how to shoot an epic sci-fi movie, and get the best out of his actors.

Really? Never got a campy vibe from Star Wars until the musical number in Jedi. Remember the visuals were state of the art at the time. And the whole universe had a lived-in look. Wooden acting, maybe. The political stuff is mostly in the prequels. Most script stuff was well handled by the editors.

It's never gonna happen, but I'd love to see the series go to Guillermo del Toro.

Nope, but going out of your way to snarkily tell others you dislike something usually is.

Was he not shot up in all three original movies? Vader got him in New Hope. I think he actually made it through Empire without being shot but I think he did get eaten. Then he got shot again by a random stormtrooper on Endor. I highly doubt even Whedon could hurt him.

Now you must think, maybe C3PO might get it...

He survived decapitation in two, and dismemberment in five. 4 and 6 weren't kind to him either. Sadly there is no way to kill him. Vampires can't live through that treatment

as much as I like Firefly and Serenity, Joss Whedon not directing star wars is probably a good thing.

Thanks for reminding me... damn it! I was hoping they would just eject him into a star and get it over with already. He is only slightly more annoying then Anakin was as a whiny kid.

And that Little Orphan Anny joke.... Its still funny damn it!

Chewie got killed off in the EU for shock value. They could do that again, but I think Han or Lando would be the most likely characters to have that happen to them on the big screen.

But Chewie went out like a badass I hear. They had to drop a farken moon on him or something. And I highly doubt they would kill of Han. He is way to popular. I can see them offing Lando though. Or maybe Admiral Akbar will finally walk into that trap.
