In a news release, the site's founder and CEO Brandon Wade said "the growth of southern female co-eds seeking the Sugar Lifestyle is a move in the right direction to bring back Southern charm."
When asked what he meant by that, Gwynn said she believes being involved with a "sugar daddy" is a way that "people are cultivating these girls to become more successful later in life."
"You have these southern gentlemen helping [sugar babies] find their way in life, as well as financially," she said.

Granted, he's getting plenty of help from his clients, but were I a proud Southern father of daughters I'd kick Brandon Wade's ass for making my home and family and people look dysfunctional.

The site has been criticized for being a possible venue for prostitution.

I don't know which is worse:

1. They got the name of my alma mater wrong
2. That the Board of Trustees and the President has screwed up my school and raised tuition so much that students need to use something like this

If I was rich enough and unattached, I'd like a 20-something to bang.  Unfortunately, I'm not rich or unattached so that ain't happening.  I guess I'll just have to stick with my 40-something year-old girlfriend.

The site offers its services to young women and men, as well as "sugar daddies" and "sugar mommies" - though they do warn you that "daddies" outnumber "mommies" by about 100-1. So, young men probably aren't going to get very far seeking out women only.

So, yeah, totally not prostitution. WAY different... somehow.

It does kinda sound hypocritical.

Meet a woman in a bar, buy her dinner & drink and wind up "back at your place" = Legal. (Lose morals, but legal).
Meet a woman in a bar, give her the money you WOULD have spent on dinner & a drink and wind up "back at your place" = Illegal.

What's the difference? In scenario one, the bar/restaurant gets the money. In the other, the woman gets the money.

Heck, lets go back to the time of the Crusades and make women wear chastity belts until they're married. Any sex outside of marriage = death penalty. Women of legal age obviously aren't allowed to have any say over what they do with their bodies, so lets leave it up to the government.

*grumbles* We'll fight for the right for people to smoke dope (legally), but not for women to decide what to do with their own bodies. We're a bunch of hypocrites.

//Oh yeah, and stay off my damn lawn.

This system has been a common and open tradition in France for decades, if not longer. It is seen there as just one more valid way for a poor young student with no money to afford university. It may not be as common as it once was, but its still flourishing, and its not exactly hidden, either.

Don't see why this is so shocking. Our culture has been drifting back strongly toward a class system for some time, and this is historically one way the ambitious have-nots have always been able to get something from the aristocracy to improve their lot.

FTFA: If college students register with a ".edu" email address, they are automatically given "premium" status on their profiles, which gives them privileges users typically have to pay to use such as reaching out to a prospective sugar daddy.

How do they screen for people being students, at schools where faculty, staff and students are all in the same domain?

Right off the top of my head, I've got .edu accounts at three US universities, none of which I've ever attended.  One I work for, one I used to work for, and one I have absolutely no formal affiliation with at all.  Two of them show no directory results for me, and the third one lets me edit my directory entry to have it say anything I want.

havetaken classes in the last few years at a fourth school, and am only on hiatus until I save up the tuition for a higher-level graduate degree... wonder how many "sugar mommies" out there are looking for sexless "arrangements" with fortysomethings? ;)

After seeing my lady bust her tail working full time and going to school (nursing) I finally told her to quit her job during her clinicals, and pharmacology. I'll pick up the ot to cover bills. We can't afford for her to not do very well grade wise (grants, loans) so we were lucky that I make enough (with ot) to do that. There are many things wrong with higher education in the U.S. presently. Cost is certainly high on the list. I could see how a pert, young college gal might be inclined to sell the snatch for some scratch.

"Four Florida universities - Florida International University in Miami-Dade, the University of Central Florida in Orlando, the University of South Florida in Tampa, and Florida State University in Tallahassee - made the Top 20 list of fastest-growing "sugar baby" memberships for SeekingArrangement.com, a website with more than two million users worldwide."

So these dirty old men are paying the junior college tuition for dumb girls? Win-Win in my opinion: dumb girls get their "degree" from a terrible university paid for and some old man gets his wrinkly dick wet.

2013-01-15 05:33:35 AM
Yeah, I don't have enough money to get myself a sugar baby. Nor do I want one.

I checked the website. There's "male sugar babies" available. Unfortunately, the "sugar mama" selection seems to be nothing but couples looking to buy a coed babysitter to nail.

This.  College for the Baby Boomers was free or very low priced, like $100 - $500 a semester.  For people my age, it was still in the $2000 - $8000 a year range.

Now, you know what it costs, $20,000 - $50,000 a year.  Only the wealthy from overseas, or our own wealthy, can afford this.

We're on a 40 year track to pull the rug out from under our young people.  I hold the Boomer generation responsible the most, they're the ones that typically were gimme gimme for themselves them eff u to everyone else.

America needs to invest in its  young people with as much or money as it invests in the military.  Education should be free or affordable.

The economic need for "Seeking Arrangement" should not exist in a free society, and we're more or less doomed if we keep encouraging this kind of "rich people need only apply" to higher ed.
