if someone chooses to have a gay partner, how does this change the experience for everyone else?

Dumb move on their part.  I mean, I totally get that integrating same sex relationship dialog into all the existing content would be really tough, and I don't blame them for not tackling it, but adding it to a single planet is going to piss some people off way more than just not doing it.

jimmiejaz: I still play almost everyday, subscriber since BETA and I still find it fun. I have 16 lvl 50 characters, but unfortunately, missed the pre-order for RotHC

I have two and that's too many mouths to feed when it comes to gear.

They actually have two videos on the page that autoplay AT THE SAME TIME. Had to stop the one up top and scroll far down to find the other one to stop.

With Makeb, I can use my female Juggernaut to flirt with female NPCs and piss off Malavai Quinn. I'm ok with that.

cgraves67: Drewdad: New content has same-sex romantic options.

This was the only planet added this time.

This is a non-story.

That's what I'm getting from this as well. New content available in new areas only. Big shocker there. It sounds like someone is beating the scandal drum in the marketing department.

Not that I plan to go out and resubscribe, but now I'm curious about what they are adding to the game. I got about 5 characters to the max level and lost interest because I don't want to spend the entire end game doing the same dungeons and same PvP scenarios over and over.

Google it. The 'same sex marriage' thing is the BIG seller.

They aren't continuing class stories at all. Ever. So, it's just a single planet story you won't have class story on. For 30$. No other content.

I recall that the book featured incest, gerontophilia, and pedophilia, but I can't remember if it was all three at the same time.

Aaaand it probably wasn't the best foray into non-kids' books. ``Oh,'' said I as a 13-year-old, ``All grown-up books must have things like anal beads in them.''

Rama 2 was the pinnacle of that series. The rest of the books felt like they simply rambling on and on and on...

Not bad though, not bad.

Oh, and to stay on topic - Bioware is lying like the EA-owned dogs that they now are.

Bioware has had gay romances since KotOR / Jade Empire up through all the Mass Effects and both Dragon Ages. And it just slipped their mind that they didn't include something that they had put into every game they have launched in the last nine years? BS. They kept it out because they didn't want any negative PR like they got in the original Mass Effect.

They decided that this MMO jazz could make them more money.

And then they blastered their load on shiat that makes single player games good but utterly fails in an MMO setting (story and VA, etc) while making a shiatty wow clone from 5 years ago with mechanics that had been a proven failure 5 years ago.

TOR's biggest problem is trying to be a single player story driven game and an MMO at the same time, failing at both. The storyline can't make any real changes to the environment because its an MMO, and the focus on storylines and voice acting means content is severely lacking. It would have been better they had made a proper KOTOR 3 for storyline (plus an Imperial Agent spinoff because it's easily the best storyline of any class in the game) and a separate TOR MMO that didn't try to be so class story driven.

Forbidden Doughnut:

/ really like the Imperial Agent storyline, so far...

If you've been using Kaliyo exclusively, prepare to get screwed at the end of Voss. Without giving away too much of the story, you don't have access to her for most of Corellia, meaning you have to gear up a second companion to use, and by the time you get her back, she's undergeared and you have to gear her up if you want to use her again.  It would have worked well in a single player game, but as an MMO, it's basically just randomly taking a bunch of gear away from you for no good reason.

For a single player game it was pretty good. PvP was fun but had some serious balance issues. The problem was the MMO elements... The game just got so bogged down killing 10 of this or collecting 12 of these... and you couldn't even skip a planet because they were so stingy on xp. And this really really killed replayability for me. Everyone gets the same sidequests and you really can't skip them without being underleveled.

The XP boosting buffs that they added in kind of help to alleviate those problems, and because they're toss-ins to the packs that people buy to get "ultra-rate cosmetic items", there are a ton of them usually on the auction house for fairly reasonable prices (in credits, not dollars).

I'm mainly still playing for the RP, and on those servers the single-player stories are largely ignored anyways. You don't really need Bioware to put in same-sex relationships when you can run around and find whatever combination of genders and/or species you want to engage in aggressive diplomacy with.

People at the top/PR: Same sex relationships...

Sounds to me like the talking heads forgot to ask the people that do the actual work the important question of "is this possible."

I can't really fault them for not doing it over the whole thing or from the get go. The fact is they are out there to make money it is not worth anything for them to implement it everywhere. It seems easy on paper, it is just a few dialog changes here and there. Well sure until you consider that would be essentially 16 (more actually due to companions but lets go with 16) different settings you have to write in, plus you have to do the voicing for all of them as well. It simply is not possible.

Focusing on other things related to TOR. I have enjoyed the time I spent playing it. I just want to say this to everyone that is complaining about F2P. IT IS FARKING FREE. Do you know where you can get something as good as SW:TOR for free even with the inconveniences (incentives to pay)? Oh right NO WHERE.

I played through it once on F2P was it annoying? A little, mostly because they dangle all of the "You could have this if you pay" in front of you. I would rank it lower than the KOTOR games but not far below them, there were periods where I enjoyed SW:TOR more than either KOTOR game. The fact remained though that I paid nothing for SW:TOR and because of that I would say that it was a superior game to either KOTOR. After that play through I had three options.

1. Walk away I would have been satisfied with it, sure I did not spend as much time playing it as some other games, but I also paid money for those other games, in some cases a lot of money.
2. Play through on F2P.
3. Pay to play.

It took me a month and a half of casual play to reach 50. I am satisfied with that. I have nothing but my own time to lose on this second play through. If I still enjoy the game at that point I will likely pay for one or two months of game time as I will have a bunch of free time to spare in April and May and play through some of the other story lines that I would be interested in.

The fact remains I got a month and a half worth of entertainment (probably about two hours a day (some days more or way more (20" of snow is a good way to free up time, as is getting sick over Christmas/New Years), some days less or none.)) So 90 hours worth of entertainment for...free. There have been games I have paid way more than nothing and gotten less entertainment from.

Bottom line for $0 the game is worth it. The 90 hours worth of entertainment I got for $0 was worth it and far more than other things I have paid for. The game as a whole is far from flawless and F2P even more so, it is still a good and enjoyable game, more so if you enjoy Star Wars.

It is a shame that everyone is so greedy now, you get something for free but still want more and complain about what you get. Fark off you people are annoying, more annoying that the F2P limitations that SWTOR put in place. Annoying enough that I am complaining about you, something I never did in a month and a half of pay $0 to play SWTOR.

I just want to thank you for stating exactly how I feel about the whole thing but in much better terms than I could.

The only reason the "free" version of this game gets so much flak is because sub people who moved to F2P know what they had and don't understand why they are expected to pay for it.

The bottom line is this: for ZERO dollars you can enjoy TOR main story arch on at least 2 characters. There barriers may seem silly but none of them affect the level 1-50 story content. The only time the free restrictions become an issue is when a person wants to start raiding or pvp. If you are going to play that much, PAY the sub fee!

I'm in my 40's. In my extended family I have two gay cousins, both decades older than I. One of them has been with the same partner since I was a teenager. I don't recall either of my relatives acting in a way that could be considered threatening to families, unless the association is somehow threatening. Perhaps I was not educated properly by my parents to see what are apparently vast differences between traditional and same sex relationships and so I never gave it any thought at family events. Can someone explain to me how SGR ruins the family nature of the game when compared to all the actions that hetero relationships can take within the game?

Nothing happened. The first Rama craft entered the solar system, was explored by the crew of a ship from Earth, who then departed before Rama slingshotted around the sun and headed off into the depths of space. The end. The Ramans doing everything in threes applied only to the design of the ship, not the number of ships made.

Gentry Lee never happened.

If you're 32 now, you would have been 13 when Rama Revealed came out. Which is coincidentally the same age I was when I read it. If you give it a read again, I think the biggest thing you'll notice will be the same thing I did.

/if I hated it so much, why did I read the entire thing?
//Because masochism

Well...Thanks! At least rama I and rama II were good reads. Yeah..me too.

KingsleyZisou: meat0918: TOR FTP is ok, but damn, if you're trying to get people into the anemic endgame and the barren PVP battlegrounds, don't block to FTP players from even accessing endgame and limit them so harshly on the battlegrounds.

And you have to pay to hide your head item slot. Seriously EA. WTF?

That's my only real complaint, the rest I accept as the cost of playing the game FTP. I'll probably drop the $5 to become a "preferred" player or whatever, just to access my bank vault and open up the send mail option.

In addition to all that, you don't think the missing two ability bars and single crafting profession gimp f2p horribly?

/you're braver than I thought

Actually, two issues.

goddamn the missing ability bars makes it hard to tank.

Fun fact: Hutts are hermaphroditic, like snails and slugs. When two of them get Hutt and heavy, one, the other, or both can end up pregnant depending on the desires of the individual. Also at the whims of the individual Hutt is whether they wish to be referred to as male or female while with Huttling, for most it's no big deal which is used.

That baby Hutt that Jabba had in the Clone Wars movie? That was his, as in "he got pregnant and birthed it". Jabba also had male pleasure slaves in his harem (no, that really fat dancer wasn't male, though a guy played her. She's from a species that lives on a desert planet and stores water in their bodies, they swell when they're full of water and grow slender as they use it. The females of her species also have six breasts and bear multiple kids with each birth).
