Bioware: completely missing the farking point since 2007(at least)

2013-01-14 10:31:48 AM
Subby, this sounds like more of a limitation of their budget and game design choices than some form of evil discrimination.

They probably don't want to get all the voice actors from the other worlds together to record new dialogue options for the areas of the game that have been available since launch.

Ahh yes.  Nothing like auto-play music that you can't control.

Gay characters are the least of my concerns with SWTOR.  I haven't signed on in months.  I leveled to 50 then got pissed that the armor and weapons that I meticulously crafted and looted was suddenly out stripped by the lvl50 armor set that they just give you.  That along with no environment variables with respect to combat and group aggro every freaking time just got old.  I may check back in soon...the wall hackers and aim-botters in BO2 are getting old.

To be fair, this would have been a MASSIVE undertaking to implement into the game post release. But they shot themselves in the foot ad promised same sex relationships after they released the game without really calculating what it would take to put that into place. They had to deliver something after making that promise and this is the compromise. Damned if they did, and damned if they didn't. That has been the story for Bioware for the last 2 years.

People still play SW:TOR? I foolishly pre-ordered it and while it was fun for a while it got old 6 months after launch and it was dying already.

That's what I'm getting from this as well. New content available in new areas only. Big shocker there. It sounds like someone is beating the scandal drum in the marketing department.

Not that I plan to go out and resubscribe, but now I'm curious about what they are adding to the game. I got about 5 characters to the max level and lost interest because I don't want to spend the entire end game doing the same dungeons and same PvP scenarios over and over.

I still play it. I love the character/story driven aspect to it. I've got NO interest in the MMO part, though.

They've made some significant changes and consolidated servers.  I started playing again and its improved quite a bit.

honestly, it's seemed to me like bioware's essentially pulled the main plug on TOR already, what with the whole massive hemmorrage of players and going F2P/PTW.

so now they're simply devoting enough to keep the faithful and the mouthbreathing attached and pumping quarters into the slot.

And now I've looked at it. For $20 dollars you get a whole 5 additional levels on a new planet with new class story lines. I'm underwhelmed. No new classes. No new races. Meh meh meh.

I pre-ordered the super-duper-mega-box-ultimate-collector's edition.  And I played it for about two weeks.  I'll never pre-order an MMO ever again.

Someone whined and was quoted in TFA: Star Wars is a family-based story with nothing to do with SGR

Are people really this inured to violence? Torturing a slave, having antisocial personality disorder, killing, lying, backstabbing - all family-friendly family values. Flirting with a same-gendered being on one planet that is gated by a paywall - ruining the game.

Come to think of it, sex and relationships have nothing to do with Star Wars. In 6 movies, only 2 relationships are ever shown - one a dysfunctional secret marriage, the other a couple going from flirtation to "true undying eternal love" with barely a kiss. Including them ruined the game!

2013-01-14 01:54:53 PM
That is one of the most misleading article headlines I've seen for a while.

/I miss journalism

2013-01-14 01:58:42 PM
However, the article also features excerpts from BioWare's official forums, where fans of The Old Republic have complained about the addition of same-sex relationships to the game.

"Star Wars is a family-based story with nothing to do with SGR," wrote one user. "Please, please, please Bioware do not allow SGR in Star Wars The Old Republic. It will ruin the game and make a lot of people leave it."

Another user wrote: "Got to agree with some of the posts on the SGR. If you can't get it right in the real world then don't stick it in the game, way too hot a topic to draw that kind of attention. I foresee thousands of parents deleting this game from their kid's computers and others because their church told them to. Why go there? Is it really worth it?"

What the fark? Even more than in the real world, how will the fact that this option exists impact ANYONE who doesn't want it? How is having this OPTION in the game going to "ruin" it? I don't play the game myself, but if someone chooses to have a gay partner, how does this change the experience for everyone else?

I really enjoyed the time I spent in SWTOR, but I haven't had time to do anything with it for months. But now that I finally replaced my Naga mouse, it may be time to sign on and play some huttball! The biggest problem with pvp, is that I can't play huttball every round. :(

I recall that the book featured incest, gerontophilia, and pedophilia, but I can't remember if it was all three at the same time.

He does have those great onboard tools and that shiny round dome. R2's also a slut, hooking up to every socket he can fit his widget into. How many droids can say they've done the Death Star?

TOR FTP is ok, but damn, if you're trying to get people into the anemic endgame and the barren PVP battlegrounds, don't block to FTP players from even accessing endgame and limit them so harshly on the battlegrounds.

And you have to pay to hide your head item slot. Seriously EA. WTF?

That's my only real complaint, the rest I accept as the cost of playing the game FTP. I'll probably drop the $5 to become a "preferred" player or whatever, just to access my bank vault and open up the send mail option.

I would steak that awesome phrase, but all my friends and coworkers stopped talking about this game months ago.

Leveled a couple characters to 50 and had a generally good time (though after playing GW2/Tera I need a bit more activity in my MMO combat now). I'll come back if you ever implement some SGR arcs for existing characters since there were some alts I wanted to make, but it sounds like that won't be for a long time, if ever.

I'm in the "Played for 6 months, got to 50, got bored, moved on' boat.

Currently playing a Guardian in GW2 and am finding it REALLY entertaining.  I thought WoW kinda killed it for me for fantasy MMO, but GW2 really has brought me back.

I like the fact that its a lot more open, you have things constantly going on, and you really only have one questline...and that's your story quest.  Everything else is just dinking around at your own pace.
