Wow 800 whole dollars worth of smack off the street... we're saved! Don't get me wrong that stuff is not "Hey man do whatever you want to do..." category but the street value doesnt even cover the salary and gas of the people involved in the arrest.

Another epic battle in the war on drugs. The streets are safer now citizen.

Not only that but the dealer who paid for his plane tickets for $800 wort of smack makes me think there is more to the story.

To be fair - this probably wasn't some sort of sting operation, and the people doing the arrest were most likely just the on duty cops. The booking agent at Hyannis probably called the cops after the kid booked a return flight after just getting off the plane. I mean, we're talking about a town with 20K people. The airport is no LAX, and stuff like that will stick out.

Like this is actually a privileged kid who went to buy his own stuff and paid for his plane tickets out of his own pocket and made up the whole thing when confronted by police.

Yes but this is Cape Cod, we can't have white privileged kids getting hooked on "street" drugs. Their parents would be too ashamed to show their faces at dinner parties!

People do trips like this all the time for a legit purpose. They're called mileage runs. Done when someone sees a sale or promotion that allows them to get frequent flier miles with a value vastly exceeding the cost of the ticket.

Yeah, I gotta go with this.

I might sound naive, but if busting this kid is a wake-up call to him, his parents, or someone that can get him straight, then it's well worth the salary and gas of the people involved in the arrest.

If this kid was not using himself then he's probably a service worker's kid who's a courier who's being used by some ultra-wealthy family's smack using kid.

Ultra wealthy Smack Using Kid: Hey Poor Kid, want to make a few hundred?

Poor Kid: Sure, what do I gotta do?

UWSUK: I need you to go to the mainland and pick up something for me, I'll pay your ticket and expenses. You won't be there long. And if you don't do this this means you're not loyal. And people in my family don''t have time for disloyal farkers.

PK: What do you mean by that last thing?

UWSUK: Meaning you're going to the mainland picking up my heroin, if you get caught people won't believe you that I use it cause my parents and family are billionaires and your mom was on welfare before you were born.

PK: But i get 200 bucks right?

UWSUK: Make it 500, since i'm such a nice and giving friend. I've always got your back bro.

Heh. Now I wonder what they thought of my trip last December from El Paso to Cedar Rapids. Arrive 9:15 pm, depart 2:30 the next afternoon. Didn't seem to raise any flags with anybody, but now that I think about it, I can see where it might.

He took a PLANE from Hyannis to Nantucket?! He could have done that with a 1 hour ferry ride, and wouldn't have been hassled.

Whoever paid him to do that trip pissed away a lot of money, and ruined this kid's life in the meantime.

There seems to be some belief that a kid flying on Cape Air is flying in the lap of luxury in a expensive and elegant scheme to smuggle Heroin from an exotic south-of-France scenario. Cape Air flies shiatty Cessna 402s with oil streaked cowlings and weeping rivets. Most of their pilots can't get jobs anywhere else and the airline itself is subsidized by the federal government. He probably dropped 100 bucks on the high side for a round trip flight that whoever he was hauling for was paying anyway.

Heroin kills people and ruins lives
fark him.

As a recovering heroin addict (12 years clean) I can also testify that Heroin is a terrible drug to get involved with and the quicker he learns this lesson, the better.

He said with a grin, while he wiped off his chin
Now I know why they gave me a bucket.

The average mileage runner, though, knows better than to schedule a nine-minute turn, even at an airport that small.

3 grams is small compared to a kilo, but it's also roughly the size of a golf ball and when the average dose is less than a tenth of a gram it's a fair amount for a single person.

The drugs aren't for the kid. Some young adult who has a trust fund and a clear path into a management position at Father's company needed to score, but he couldn't get off the island. He meets ther 16 yr old kid at a pool party thrown by the kids older sister and they hit it off because the kid will do anything for acceptance, like grope his own mom on a dare. The kid pretty much has his run of the island because his mother is adicted to Ambien and his father is addicted to strange vagina working long hours in his home office. The young adult's job with Daddy's company has been in jeopardy lately because he's been in and out of rehab. The reason he's on the island with Dad is so that his father can keep a closer eye on him since he destroyed the beach house in Malibu by allowing his coke-head friends to throw never ending parties. If he takes a plane off of the island Dad is going to know he's going to get dope and he'd risk losing another one of his credit cards. So, he grooms the kid by calling him his little bro and taking him places that other 16 year olds on the island don't have acces too. When rations begin to get low, he asks the kid to go pick up a package "for his big bro" because they'd NEVER check a kid for drugs. And even if they did, all they would do is return him to his Ambian zombie stepmother or his whore-banging father. The first couple of times the kid comes and goes and nobody seems to notice or care. So young adult gets emboldened and a little more reckless with his last batch. It forces the kid to go again, sooner than he should have too. One of the few TSA agents who payes attention notices him from a few weeks prior and begins to put the pieces together. Police are contacted. The dog is brought out. The rest is in the article.

It wasn't the TSA, or else it would have said so. "Airport employee" implies a gate agent or private security since it's a municipal airport. Also you give the TSA agents too much credit; they're not exactly Mossad.

I had to stay an extra 15 minutes in Israel when, traveling with my American passport (the only one I have, snarkers), I mistakenly answered the security agent's question in good (non-American) Hebrew. After getting enough info out of me to social-engineer half my website subscriptions, she let me go with a smile.

Don't speak Hebrew to the El-Al gate agents while traveling on an American passport, unless you want to relive your childhood. Apparently, the only non-Israelis who learn Hebrew are terrorists and wizards.

// apparently, people get tetchy when suspicious things happen at an airport these days

Walker: THIS!

It wasn't the screening that got him, if there is even any at that airport. The kid should have just told the cops he likes to fly and if they don't like that they can fark right off. What justification would they use to search him or hold him? (Who am I kidding, they'd make something up anyway because of turrurism)

That being said, I hope if he intended to use the heroin he gets some help. I'm generally for legalization but heroin is not one I'd like to see used widely.

2013-01-14 01:07:12 PM

They may also have wanted to be sure you were not traveling on an American passport to avoid conscription, especially when you spoke Hebrew without sounding American.

Um... that's now how the system works. What's the monetary value of some hobo with no family or friends? Basically zero. And yet if someone murders a hobo we spend a lot of money trying to get them locked up.
