FTA: "All that stuff I was taught about evolution and embryology and the Big Bang Theory, all that is lies straight from the pit of Hell," Broun said at a banquet for a church sporting club. "And it's lies to try to keep me and all the folks who were taught that from understanding that they need a savior."

These people need to be punched in the face until they stop saying stupid things.

Broun, who added that "I don't believe that the Earth's but about 9,000 years old," will remain on the science committee in the 113th Congress.

Jesus wept.

Though they'll accept science reports from BP saying the cleanup chemicals used in the Gulf aren't toxic.

What role does the House Committee on Science actually play? I assume they take a role in deciding who get government grants to do research, but do they have any other real purpose?

So basically the gist of the article is that Republicans scientifically illiterate. But we already knew that.

Even Communist China is cleaning house of toxic stupidity. Clearly, they are gaining on us.

We're still hooked on the idea that...

My Stupidity = My Point of View

....and of course...

My Point of View

...is every bit as good as...

Science

Somehow the notion that- if this was true- then "making shiat up" would save us billions on all sorts of science-related research and development (such as arms development- an area of research that's always a big favorite of the Right), yet isn't hasn't, hasn't sunk in. Because making shiat up doesn't get you any of that stuff.

Science does, biatches.

My understanding is that happens through peer review at NSF and NEH, but I'm not American.

My dream is for an actual research scientist to get a chair on the committee someday. It's not as if being a congressman is that time consuming, and most primary investigators spend their time faffing about anyway.

They can pass bills about how grant programs are created and money is given out. They do not actually choose which proposals get funded.

Yeah. Opposing science. If they can find a way to bring the pro-rape demographic into the fold, they'll be unstoppable in 2014.

An interesting question. If they really hate science, shouldn't they reject things like cars and cell phones and prescription medicines and go live with the Amish? This selective rejection of certain scientific bits leads me to believe it's not science they are hostile to, but something else.

THIS is why we can't have nice things. literally.

congress is broken. it is broken because the republican party has gone so far out of the mainstream that it will likely never return. the ONLY hope for this country is if the republican purity purge continues unabated and they finally primary themselves out of existence.

the modern republican party is the greatest threat this country has ever faced.

I've delivered lots of babies, and I know about these things. It is true. We tell infertile couples all the time that are having trouble conceiving because of the woman not ovulating, 'Just relax. Drink a glass of wine. And don't be so tense and uptight because all thatadrenaline can cause you not to ovulate.' So he was partially right wasn't he?

I'm not sure that is is adrenaline per se but stress hormones can effect ovulation. I think the point that he is missing is that a woman might go head and choose of ovulate before she is raped. More importantly just because sometimes stress can prevent ovulation doesn't mean always or even typically.

That is using WIS as a sump stat, not INT. Low INT, decent WIS will just go "I do not understand, but he does, so I will lisiten to him".
Low WIS is "It contradicts what I believe, therefore it is wrong"

Shouldn't be too hard. There are 22 Republicans and 6 Democrats.

I would have linked to the House's list, but the Democrats are not currently posted.

And the men of the city said to Eliseus: Behold the situation of this city is very good, as thou, my lord, seest: but the waters are very bad, and the ground barren. And he said: Bring me a new vessel, and put salt into it. And when they had brought it, He went out to the spring of the waters, and cast the salt into it, and said: Thus saith the Lord: I have healed these waters, and there shall be no more in them death or barrenness. And the waters were healed unto this day, according to the word of Eliseus, which he spoke. And he went up from thence to Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, little boys came out of the city and mocked him, saying: Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. And looking back, he saw them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord: and there came forth two bears out of the forest, and tore of them two and forty boys. And from thence he went to mount Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.

No, the problem here is years and years of hitting these people with Charm, Mass. Because a few of these people have some CHA, but otherwise they've used all three mental attributes as dump stats.

There's also the rampant plague of Lawful Evil. They know exactly what the fark they're doing, but it advances their agenda within the system at the expense of the people. That's pure LE territory.

The actual "Dark Ages" weren't really that bad in terms of scientific advancement. The work of William of Ockham, or Roger Bacon in creating the scientific method. Central Heating, Artesian Wells, Wine press, Hops, even Chimneys. There were major advances in that time period, but people seem to believe the caricature instead.

And the caricature is what these Republican dipwads are trying to turn America into.
