There was a (what, New York Times?) article linked to here a couple days ago with bar graphs showing the majority of his victims were girls between (I think) 13 and 15 (post-puberty, i.e. might get knocked up) and women over 18. I'm too tired & drunk to find it now, but it's there.

I recall reading about this same issue - knighthoods being called into question after death, after prosecution, and so on. I completely agree that if someone deserves the honor (or "honour") and then screws up, that does no invalidate their earlier contributions.

HOWEVER, Saville's charitable work was his crime. He got a knighthood, in essence, for diddling kids. That's different from being caught after retirement, or found to have been diddling kids that had nothing to do with his hospital charities. That's the part that irritates.

If that's it, Jimmy vs a paedophile who only looks at pictures then obviously Jimmy is worse. The reactions you got to asking that simple and benign question in this thread highlights why we'll never deal with paedophilia properly, because people see it as something you have to show outrage at, otherwise you're a paedophile yourself. If you dare try and understand the causes, and deal with it you might as well be rogering a child in front of these people. Anything other than "lock 'em up and throw away the key", is political and cultural suicide in our lands.

I don't see the problem, it's either a mental condition or a sexual preference, so treat it as one, study it, find out causes and find out ways to mitigate it. If we have a world where paedophiles can get treatment without getting arrested (assuming they come in before committing any crimes) then we'll have fewer paedophiles taking out their urges on children because they'll be getting the help they need. By refusing to make any effort to understand paedophilia we're fighting it with one hand tied behind our backs and a blindfold on. Know your enemy.
