he would but he came home the other day and kevin garnet had just eaten the last of them, kg left without even refilling the box, just showed up and sucked that box dry and took off... total dick move

Wow.

He's really really really stupid. The team would be justified in fining him for this. He is intentionally sabotaging himself, and it is hurting the team.

Reading the article isn't that hard. It's not Ramadan and he's doing this based on his Christian beliefs apparently.

What a dick. No way he could have done this during the offseason?

He says he's doing this for clarity and spiritual reasons. Perhaps he's gained clarity on the virtues of passing the ball?

It's pretty common in Christian circles as a way of dieting but making it sound spiritual. Especially at the beginning of the year.

Fruits and vegetables have carbs, so it's not really no carbs.

Not really that big a deal, actually.

What kind of god makes so many delicious foods and then wants you to fast?

Not my god, no sir.

I wonder if a court would enforce a "you must keep eating" clause in Melo's contract, if he violates it for religious purposes.

I disagree. When you are getting paid millions of dollars to entertain thousands of people it is a big deal. If its not in his contract then the Knicks have every right to suspend him for conduct detrimental to the team.

It's not just carbs. For example, a poorly planned vegetarian diet can lead to essential amino acid deficiency, although I don't think 15 days is enough for that to become a major problem.

Outstanding point. Except for the fact that his team has the 2nd best record in the east and he is leading that team by posting career best (or near career best) numbers in points, rebounds, FG%, 3P% and minutes.

/Not a huge Carmelo fan, but he's been getting it done this season.

Definitely a dumb move, but it doesn't explain why all the other Knicks have been playing so poorly over the same stretch. Kidd, Smith, and Novak are shadows of themselves at the beginning of the year. If they played average D and shot average for themselves, they would have made all of those games close, instead always being 10-20 pts back.

At least Detroit and New Orleans are good teams to get back on track against.

Actually the losing streak that coincided with his fasting makes your point irrelevant. He could have cost them the #1 seed w/ home court throughout the playoffs.

Kidd is 40, Smith is always streaky, and Novak Im not sure, might be the same issue as JR.

This, this and as for Novak, he's always been a support role. On offense, he can't get open on his own (without the ball) and is helpless with a defender in front of him (with ball). He was a huge beneficiary of Linsanity last year, as Lin's ability to drive would collapse the defense -- and unlike Melo, Lin had the presence of mind to get the ball out to a waiting Novak rather than take on a triple-team. On defense, about the only thing he has going for him is his height. He can sort of help out Tyson Chandler in clogging up the paint, but if he's guarding someone away from the basket who has any driving ability, his only recourse is to funnel the guy into Tyson Chandler and hope Tyson's in position.

The Knicks aren't struggling because of Novak. When the Knicks struggle, so struggles Novakaine.

I remember last year when the Knicks were clicking, Novak would rain 3s down and it was game over.
