Would I drive one - if it was provided free and clear to me and I couldn't sell it. - SURE!

Would I spend hard earned money on it? - NOPE, so many other things I'd rather have + the extra cash, maybe a Scion FRS (not that it's in the same league), Mini Cooper S, Tesla roadster.

1958 and 1963 were the best years aesthetically. Discuss.

Give me an older G35

or an Acura NSX.

That corvette looks atrocious. Wrong lines, Wrong contour. Wrong feel in every single direction.

The early ones were poorly built - I once had to move a '59's firewall ~3" to the right to get rid of the factory bulge on the left fender. Given recent trends, I don't expect the new ones to be much better. For the money, I'd buy an old Honda.

zeroeffect: None of the angle-y lines seem to have a purpose, they're thrown all over the car like scrabble pieces.

And it has such sharp knees.

Still more affordable (and could run circles around it on a bad day).

I would take an Atom over a Vette any day as my second car.

I'd have to chose the Vette over the atom as my primary car though, because it has a roof.

Evil High Priest: The Miata is one of the best true sports cars available, at any price. If you like that "handling" stuff.

Oh I completely agree. It's an autocross monster.

When you see it on the street though, It's always a gay couple. Every. Single. Time.

computerguyUT: aiiee: The thing is that anyone with any brains has gotten as far away from the American Auto industry as possible, hence the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, Camaro taillights and all.

Actually the 5th gen camaro got it's tail lights from the corvette.

It's not bad, I think they're getting away from the clean smooth curves which define the corvette.
Still pretty decent looking...

We have a 2010 camaro and absolutely love it, I'll bet the Vette is a blast to drive.

Actually, I think the round taillights are supposed to harken back to the Camaros of the early 1970s.

It looks like it was designed from a model Transformer bought in a toy store.

I would just assume get a low end Porshe for about the same money.

Proposal:

The new U.S. car designs involve folding sheet metal like orgami and will be remembered as time for car design in the U.S. that will to be referred to as regrettable, like fashion in the 70's.

I have a 1959, i wouldn't trade it for one of these new ones even if they were throwing cash in on the deal. Unless it was A LOT of cash.

The car costs 50k and does 0-60 in under 4 seconds, has a full g skidpad rating and keeps you dry in the rain. I will be buying this car not because it's a good option, but because it is the only option. I would gladly buy something else, if some other car company would step up and make a car that can compete.

I want to see one in person...I thought the current Camaro looked, uh, weird in pics, but once I saw it in person I liked it.  I think this will be the same thing.

Although I'm glad to see Chevy found a solution to the "wow, there's way too much rear visibility in the Corvette, what can we do to reverse that?" problem they didn't have.

Probably for the trans/diff since the brake coolers are below it in front of the wheel.

Usually they put those in front of the wheel well, but maybe they've ducted it down.  I can't think of any other reason for it.

Don't like the taillights.. too 'camarish' for me. I wished they retained the 2 circular taillamps even if they made some modernization to it. The new ass is totally out of character for a Vette.

Interesting, thanks for posting that. As you can tell I don't exactly keep my ear to the ground on this stuff the way I used to.

OTOH, so far it's only at the concept-car stage and they're thinking production's gonna start in 2015...anything can happen. :-/ Wouldn't be the first car that turned out to be vaporware.

Nice. It's come a long way since Zora Arkus Duntov sat down with a pencil. I still say that of automakers would resurrect the exact body specs of the GTX, the Chevelle Malibu and a couple of other iconic cars on new platforms with better interiors and safety features, they'd sell a million of them.

GM Marketing: We have a problem. No one but a redneck is willing to pay between $55K and $112K for out POS Corvette and they can't get their hands on that kind of money anymore.

GM Design Department: How about we make it look kind of like a Ferrari and up the price $35K?

It's for the transmission and differential. A GM engineer was talking about it. Good call on their part, too, since both can get very hot if you drive it like it's meant to be driven.
