If I had that much money and wanted something ugly that would make people hate me for no reason, I'd just buy 50 AR15's.

Notabunny: camaroash: I'm excited for this because it will do to the resale value of C5s what the C6 did to the C4 vettes.

An '02 Z06 with 50k on the clock for $12K. Yes, please.

There's something to that. The interior plastics were a bit rattly and squeaky, but all the mechanical bits should be good to go. Besides, nobody buys a Z06 for the interior plastics, anyway.

Squeaks and rattles can be drowned out with the stereo. Safe to say some gran-pappy's estate sale garage queen is going to do some much-needed Wasatch Front canyon carving.

Christ.  Sell my '10 JK Wrangler (they depreciate like slugs,) pay off the note, buy the Vette, and only end up parting with a couple thousand.  That's almost criminal.

Imagine if I owned the Wrangler outright.

Looks like someone took a Viper and tried to incorporate some Ferrari cues and Malibu tail lights.
Leaf springs and an available 6 spd auto make it feel so retro.

2013-01-14 12:13:58 AM
The Corvette should have round tail lights. My 87 and 73 both had round taillights, just like most of the other years.

I am not found of the new one. The Camaro rear end does not belong on a Vette.

ficklefkrfark: fluffy2097: HairBolus: I really can't understand how a car can both be a substitute for a small penis and be considered sexually hot, that is unless the target market is guys who deny they are GAY.

I see you've heard about the Miata.

/gayest car. in the wrooorld

Possibly, although I've always figured the miata as the car of the 51 year old, lightly paunched, balding middle management type that isn't quite toolish enough to go full Harley Davidson.
I've always observed that the Chrysler Pacifica seems to be the rental car of choice of the older gay couple on vacation.

The Miata is one of the best true sports cars available, at any price. If you like that "handling" stuff.

Rattly and squeaky interior plastics (ideally with poor fit and even worse aesthetics) are a standard GM design cue.

Pretty much this.

It looks like they tried to copy some Italian super-car and failed.

What does the new C7 weigh???

Haven't been able to find that spec anywhere.

/and why exactly do all modern sports cars have to weigh more than 3 farking thousand pounds?

JerkStore: The Muthaship: GT-R

[www.mediashow.ro image 640x512]

The GT-R is ugly, but your demotivator sort of loses its humor when you realize that "ugly fat girl" can out "dance" the "pretty" ones.

See that's sort of my thing with people and their fascination on the Veyron. The track times seem to indicate that the GT-R is statistically the same or even slightly better than the Veyron on a track... If you're going to buy an eye sore why pay 25x more for it?

I read somewhere that the target weight was 3,000 lbs. Imagine 450 hp in something that weighs about 1.5 cheerleaders more than a Honda Civic!

2013-01-14 12:32:19 AM

hdhale: Ima4nic8or: The only thing that bugs me is the power decrease. Werent they up to 505 or 550 hp? What gives? Is this Obama's bullshiat fuel mileage requirements kicking in?

Why do you need more than 10 rounds in a magazine 150 hp? What could you possibly be doing that you need more than that? You should feel bad for thinking you do.

Yes... clearly this is an assault car that gives drivers way too much power. It is just an accident waiting to happen and a menace on our roads... Thank you for pointing that out.

I believe the safety features are the main reason. The Camaro is pushing four. I certainly don't like that about it, but it's still damned impressive going 'round the 'ring.

I *vaguely* remember a Top Gear Ep where they came to the states and tried a Camaro, Challenger and a Mustang. Hemi and everything. The Challenger came in last with every stage - they said it was more for posing.

/Memory is rusty, so YMMV

Repo Man: Marcintosh: The current Corvette starts at $49,600.
Go ahead, spend 6 months looking for one at that price.  No dealer in their right mind would sell you one at that price.  Some dealers might not get even one Corvette.
I'm sure it's a wonderful auto and that it does everything perfectly.  This is just one more fine auto that's so far out of reach it's not funny.

I might be able to afford a mid to late 80's which handles far better than any of the 70's  I'm thinking an '88 and a can of -
[www.purefinish.co.uk image 600x600]

The C5 is far superior to the C4. A base late 90's Corvette can be had for a pretty reasonable price now.

*does quick ebay search* How right you are . . . just need a job that pays now . . . thanks!

They look stupid to anyone over ten years old.

My uncle had one just like that. Same color, same side pipes, everything. Modern cars are better in every measurable way. But I'll take an old glass coffin, thank you very much.

2013-01-14 12:44:12 AM
If you look at this version in the context of the original Stingray design from the 60's, the design makes sense.

Ghastly: concotelli: Creeping ever closer to the "Corvette Summer" edition.
[www.vetteonline.com image 320x213]

God that was an ugly abomination.

Putting rectangular headlights in cars that came with round ones originally was a thing back in the seventies. In the late '80s Super Chevy magazine bought a '67 Camaro that was pretty straight, but had had this done to it. Thankfully, they returned it to the stock ones. The mid to late seventies were very dark times for automobiles, both in style and function.

2013-01-14 01:16:06 AM

JungleBoogie: Sharp in the back, like the GT-R. Bulbous in the front like the Viper. Big beef under the hood.

Verdict: Looks good. But they decided to follow the pack instead of lead it. Mercedes typically sets the pace, which Lexus and Hyundai mimic. Corvette is an iconic brand, should be setting the pace too.

Summary: Cautious redesign.

Yep.

Nailed it.

2013-01-14 01:16:58 AM
At the end of the day, Chevy played catch up the SRT Viper & GT-R, added too many vents & killed the round tailights because "2013, we need Camaro tailights!".

It's good & may drive great but I'll take the GT-R, SRT, even the C4 Vette over this.

/Can't wait to see Top Gear's take on this.

2013-01-14 01:28:28 AM
The should spend some R&D funds to develop mass produced carbon fiber structural parts. Then find a designer who isn't particularly impressed by the Vette and tell them to go nuts.

2013-01-14 01:31:43 AM
It just looks too European.

What I love about the current Mustangs is that they look like 70's American muscle.

And my local police force bought a hundred of them. My town's cop cars look bad ass!
