Nassau Blue C-5 is the prettiest Corvette ever made.

/Book it

Still more affordable (and could run circles around it on a bad day).

I had a weird dream about one of those last night.

I deserved that :)

Track or not, I've been in that GTR and it's more impressive than any Vette I've ever driven.

I had the opportunity to take one around Vegas. I've driven that track any number of times. Pit row sucks ass as it's concrete and the tires hook up way too hard so if you don't drive the track often, you'll stall. About the only good thing I can say about the GT-R is that when I lined up to stall the beast, it wouldn't let me. Cornered like a bug with a bathtub on the roof, but it accelerated like speed was going out of style. The 'vette, on that same track with the same driver (me) was .25 secs faster per lap.

What_Would_Jimi_Do: for the extra cash i'd rather had a GT-R

To each there own. To the ZR1, victory.

Not bad but I'd rather have a Syclone.

You seem like you know a bit about cars, so it's hard for me to believe you're trying to make a direct comparison between an Atom and a new Vette. Comparing a Lotus Exige to an Atom? Sure. A KTM X-Bow? Absolutely. A car that weighs twice as much with an interior, a roof, doors, body panels, and windows?

If you want to make apples to elephants comparisons, at least make a sensible one and compare an Atom to a GSX-R 600, or an Atom V8 to a ZX-12R.

You're the only person I've ever heard say this. In fact, everyone else says quite the opposite. You drove it on the track, so your opinion is legitimate. It just surprises me, because other people I've talked to who've driven it on the track talk about it's great handling.

I'd still rather just have one of these.

Have you ever driven a car with too much horsepower? A motorcycle? It's a rush. For me ,anything fast is. My favorite part of cycling is descents, where I do my best to hit the highest speed possible (I nearly hit sixty coming down Carson pass once).

I love my GT-R, but the ZR1 is a monster, so no whining from me. It is a good bit pricier, though.

/Cheaper by far than the other 2 in that race though.

It's the weight. You can feel it like a lead jacket. Pushes the whole car out in a corner. It "feels" pretty neutral as the AWD will let you intuitively bring the beast back in, but by then you've completely blown your line. Not comparing the whole care head to head, but if you compare it to a V8 TT, the damned thing doesn't push out, so you don't have to crank the wheel to bring it back in. Weight is the problem with that car.

Also, if they had to meet most homologation, they'd have to tear off most of the things that make it "fast".

I would have preferred a more retro look, similar to the treatment given to the Camaro and Mustang. I wanted to like it, but in the end I just don't .

I hope not!

But, I think they are letting people lap them as long as it isn't competitive without killing the warranty. I will have to make sure first.

I think it's more of a case of there being too much to look at. This new Vette is a very busy design from a visual standpoint; it looks like several different cars all patched together depending upon which angle you look at it from.

It's not a BAD design mind you, but it's definitely lacking the elegant simplicity of Italian automotive aesthetics.

Really, the Vette's strength for the past 10 years has been its engineering anyway. For the price, it pretty much pisses all over everything else available.

Hit 50-52 mph off the Kirkstone Pass in Cumbria. In the rain. Have no real desire to repeat the experience. "Rain brakes", my left nut, to quote the late L. Armstrong.

The current Corvette starts at $49,600.
Go ahead, spend 6 months looking for one at that price.  No dealer in their right mind would sell you one at that price.  Some dealers might not get even one Corvette.
I'm sure it's a wonderful auto and that it does everything perfectly.  This is just one more fine auto that's so far out of reach it's not funny.

I might be able to afford a mid to late 80's which handles far better than any of the 70's  I'm thinking an '88 and a can of -

The C5 is far superior to the C4. A base late 90's Corvette can be had for a pretty reasonable price now.

The C5 was the last alright looking Corvette. Not great but good by Corvette standards.

The technology has always been interesting but looks, not so much.

Lsherm ,

Your right about the interior. I checked out some Lamborghini interiors on Google. All the cars now are driving us apart. When I started driving there was pretty much one bench front seats in everything... but the back seats were better.

There's something to that. The interior plastics were a bit rattly and squeaky, but all the mechanical bits should be good to go. Besides, nobody buys a Z06 for the interior plastics, anyway.
