The Muthaship: rohar: We'll that's an interesting theory. BMW showed up for hundreds of races for 2 consecutive years putting Ferrari in second place. But that one or two races Nissan showed up at caused them to up their game.

The GT-R could be a great car. It isn't. The largest part of that is Nissan's lack of commitment to endurance racing. Once they commit, every system on the car will be 5 to 10% better. Until then, it's a boring looking sports car that weighs too much and doesn't go fast enough.

Ok, you're trolling me or demented. Read up on what Ferrari's people have said about the car, no need to take my word. The new one goes 0-60 in 2.7 seconds and has a top speed of 197. Pokey little thing.

Like Ferrari's people would pay attention to a sub par vehicle.

Bored Horde: StrangeQ: cqaudi: Ima4nic8or: The only thing that bugs me is the power decrease. Werent they up to 505 or 550 hp? What gives? Is this Obama's bullshiat fuel mileage requirements kicking in?

marsgwar: They couldn't even bother to put an engine with the same hp as a CTS-V. Weak.

The base C6 has the 430hp LS3. The C7 has the new 450hp LT1.

ZO6 / ZR1 models will be along next with much more HP.

It goes 0-60 in less than four seconds. At some point horsepower just becomes a number when you factor in weight, aerodynamics and suspension.

The thing that's really holding back the Corvette series are the cost-saving measures like plastic body panels and consumer-grade construction.

It's a monstrosity of design-by-committee. The engineers have created an amazing engine and suspension with great aerodynamics. Classic American mechanical engineering genius. Then the accountants came in and made the body panels and interior be cheap plastic. Classic American penny-wise, pound-foolish financials.

If they really wanted to make something special, and it may just be restricted to the Z-01 series, they'd replace the body and panels with ceramics, aluminium, titanium and carbon fibre. The Italians, the French, the Germans and the British have all moved into these materials because they're simply better. If Chevy want the Corvette to truly be a brand-ambassador, they need to act like it and compete with the German and Italian supercars on a whole-car basis.

Would be nice. I'd like to see Ford do the same with the Mustang, but we seem to be stuck sacrifice all else for horsepower and affordability mindset.

I agree.

The GT-R looks just like the mid-point between the current and previous models of the Mitsubishi Eclipse. You don't pay six figures for a sleeper - you build your own.

And I do like the C7. I can't wait to be a rich old man so that I can rationalize spending that much on a car.

Wait a couple of years and pick up a used one with 5000 miles on it for half the original price.
That's one of the cool things about these cars, there's a solid used market of them in near perfect condition.

You are smoking crack. A 'Vette isn't a Camry. They hold their value pretty damn well. I just checked up and a 2009 base C6 will still get close to $40k with typical mileage. Not much savings. You will probably need to wait almost a decade to get it at half price. Hell, a five year old Z06 will still demand $45k.

On the plus side, that means a lease won't kill you (though driving the car might).

I'm dead serious, look around they're all over the place here in Utah.
I know three people where I work that picked up used vettes in prime condition for right around 20k.
We picked up our 2010 Camaro with 4800 miles on it for 31k vs a window sticker of 40k.
Have a freind/ co worker that did the exact same thing just this fall.
If you really cared, hit the Vette forums and ask what people paid for them. They're usually pretty up front.

The car I was seriously considering was a silver 01 Z06 with 65 K, and in very good condition. The asking price was $17,000.

Not at all. Those are great specs. Why don't they race it except at less than 5 low factory involved endurance races per year? If it's all that, bring it to the big games. ALMS, GARRA, ELS etc.

aiiee: The thing is that anyone with any brains has gotten as far away from the American Auto industry as possible, hence the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette, Camaro taillights and all.

The Corvette is to Chevy what the Skyline (GTR) is to Nissan. Their entire lineup is complete garbage, but they actually put some effort and quality into one car.

Granted this is less so for Nissans now since they're much better, but you get the point.

No. They're cherry picking tracks to match the limitations of their car. Chevy didn't do that when they got back in to endurance racing. They perfected everything. Then they won Le Mans AND damned near routed the entire ALMS series.

The 'ring plays to it's strong suits. Acceleration and top speed. Did you see it in the carousel on that run? The 911s it just passed were trying to get up it's exhaust in that part of the track. You can't do that at Le Mans or anywhere in ALMS. The car's got massive weaknesses, unless you've got another perfectly rational reason why they don't race it except at large long non technical tracks.

Any?

Looks good but that LCD Odometer isn't new. Lexus and Lamboghini did it first. If it can color match with the exterior, that'll be good.

I don't have any idea why Nissan races it where it does. We started out talking about it versus the 'vette. It absolutely kills every 'vette, but the ZR1, with which it is basically a dead heat (and much cheaper). You interjected the Le Mans comparo, which is utterly meaningless to me. I'm just enjoying humiliating 'vette owners...at least the ones bold enough to try.

StrangeQ: Would be nice. I'd like to see Ford do the same with the Mustang, but we seem to be stuck sacrifice all else for horsepower and affordability mindset.

I'd like to see Ford beef up the Mustang to all they can muster, pimp out the exterior so it doesn't look like a Mustang, spruce up the interior/features, and slap a Lincoln badge on that bad boy.

Lincoln is apparently going to something with the Mustang in the near future (if they survive), but it sounds like they're going to make it a coupe. Yuck.

I love my MKZ, and I would hate to see Lincoln go the way of Mercury just because Ford didn't have enough balls to go out on a limb and try something extreme with Lincoln. The brand can be saved and it is worth saving.

2013-01-13 10:40:30 PM
Sharp in the back, like the GT-R. Bulbous in the front like the Viper. Big beef under the hood.

Verdict: Looks good. But they decided to follow the pack instead of lead it. Mercedes typically sets the pace, which Lexus and Hyundai mimic. Corvette is an iconic brand, should be setting the pace too.

Summary: Cautious redesign.

Why do you need more than 10 rounds in a magazine 150 hp? What could you possibly be doing that you need more than that? You should feel bad for thinking you do.

Of course it's meaningless to you, you don't know what it entails. That said, let's ignore the big game and look at every endurance race since the GT-R was created. Who won more races? The GT-R or the 'Vette?

Chevy's been whooping the shiat out of Porsche, and even Porsche has won more races than the GT-R.

Possibly, although I've always figured the miata as the car of the 51 year old, lightly paunched, balding middle management type that isn't quite toolish enough to go full Harley Davidson.
