I don't think Panasonic's 4K tablet is a dumb idea. Panasonic intended it to be a specialty use device for photographers who take digital photographs that are already at that resolution or higher. It's not intended for the average schmoe.

Right. Also 'cause you need two schmoes to hold and use it.

Subby has "Five dumbest things" while TFA has "Five dumbest ideas"

For subby, I'd say "The Qualcomm Keynote" was by far the dumbest thing.

Whereas the dumbest idea easily had to be thinking that the Qualcomm Keynote was a going to make the company look good.

That 4K tablet looks amazing for an around-the-house computer. It's big enough to read real documents from, it's got beautiful resolution, and it's powered by real components. Kudos to Panasonic for designing a tablet for the home.

His problem with the 4k tablet is that there is no software that will take advantage of 4k right now.

I wonder how quickly we'll get software that does if we refuse to build hardware that could use it?

Dumbass.

Yet he lauds apple for the same thing in the same paragraph, saying that retina display support was only just added to many packages.... Douchenozzle shill.

The HAPIfork is not a dumb idea. It's a dumb-looking design. Giving someone a discreet reminder that they are inhaling their food is a good thing, but nobody is going to eat using utensils that look like they came in a Happy Meal.

Pardon Me Sultan: For subby, I'd say "The Qualcomm Keynote" was by far the dumbest thing.

Yes, this. There has not been nearly enough coverage of the Qualcomm Keynote.

Except as per the article the fork won't give feedback during the meal.

If delayed feedback sufficiently covered eating habits then none of us would be fat or even eat foods that lead to indigestion.

That contradicts everything else I have read, which says that it will start vibrating if it senses you are eating too quickly.

Also what does that even mean? surely a standard windows application that, say a photographer uses, would have no issues with the res at all?

Bingo. It's a specialized tablet for folks who are editing high res images, like photos, blueprints, etc. I can see quite a few uses for such a thing.

People who dismiss it thinking it's intended to be used like an ipad are morons. It's not a coffee shop kind of tablet.

Article seems to miss the point on the hapifork: sure it can't tell if you are eating a salad or Cheetos, but it is a passive way to remind you to slow down.

Products like this that don't require much user intervention is the next gen of devices.

If Panasonic gives that 4K tablet a pressure-sensitive Wacom Cintiq-style screen, they'd have no choice but to Shut Up And Take My Money.

I've been hoping for an "all-in-one"/tablet-style Cintiq for a couple of years, now.

You can't blame this "journalist" - he thinks that a "consumer" is a single stereotype, like "bus driver" or "pegboy." He just can't understand why "consumers" want something other than Apple products, and so he's obviously baffled.

I have to agree with blinged-out smartphone and tablet cases. I still don't understand why there is such a huge market for those dumb accessories. Oh i know. It's the same people who have 20 pairs of shoes and a bathrooms over flowing with over priced hygiene products that all have the same ingredients.

It's because those morons are "individuals." Sure, they've all purchased the exact same smartphone, but they need to somehow differentiate themselves from the "crowd", clueless at the realization that they're also buying the same damned cases. The worst part? They're buying them because they saw other people - famous people, rich people - using them. They're figuratively conforming to fit a mold based on a perceived segment of societal status. They can't help themselves.

"I'm an individual, just like everyone else! See?" Morons.

The difference is that a Vuitton handbag will still be useful as a handbag in fifty years, while a Vuitton iPad case will be a very expensive holder for a brick.

Yeah, if they can get the pressure sensitivity down and a decent price, artists will be lining up to buy. I dunno if it's still the same way now, but when I bought my 21UX a year and a half ago, Wacom was backordered by two to three months. The demand is that high on a machine that retails for over 2K.

/Would be nice to sketch in bed.

The fun part is knowing that I've probably extended the vocabulary of a portion of this thread's readers. The really fun part is imagining those readers trying to figure out which frenulum to which I was referring, knowing full well that both visuals are, well, disturbing.

Hmm, not sure about a 2560p, 20" tablet but maybe a more powerful all in one.

Or even just a screen with the world's best stand, could give it a bit more bulk so you can comfortably lean on it. Push it up to 24" and accompany it with a 12", 1080p tablet for out in the field with similar spec that can dock into the stand on the larger screen.

No joke. If it's got the specs to run a full version of Photoshop CS5 or 6, the screen looks great, the touch inputs are responsive, and I can work directly on the picture without the disconnect of having to guide a mouse around a monitor, I'm sold. All that's left for me to decide is which kidney to give up to pay for it.

It's the same reason there is a market for 22" chrome rims for cars. Some people feel like they have to do anything they can to stand out from a crowd, despite how pointless it may be.

You forgot the ASIC Bitcoin mining rig that was empty save for the tablet mounted on the top. Because they charged everybody up front and, four months later, still haven't delivered the computers nor any data on exactly how they'll function.

Look up "Butterfly Labs" for how not to run a business. But it's Bitcoin! A sign that says failure right out of the gate.

With a high resolution screen I don't want my fingerprints on hit. Use a Kinect camera so I can operate it without touching it or at more than arm's length. Or at least allow a stylus. It would be great for the kitchen all in one computer, again don't make me touch the screen when I have flour on my hands. Ok, I might be missing the point of the 4k resolution, but a giant tablet would be something I would consider if it came with no-touch gesturing.
