I've never been to Europe.  Is crossing countries the same as driving from state to state here?  How would he make it past a border check?

Didn't used to be. I'm guessing the EU thing has changed things.

Banning automatic cars, like automatic weapons, would have kept this crime from occurring.

EU has abolished internal border checkpoints for the most part, except in emergency or national security issues.

I knew a kid who was an "expert go-kart driver".

Now he races for Porsche.

It's the Schengen Agreement, and it doesn't quite line up with the EU. The United Kingdom and Ireland opted out. Cyprus, Romania, and Bulgaria are still working on being able to follow the rules. And finally, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, and Liechtenstein are all official members. The other microstates aren't official members, but they were integrated with their neighbor countries beforehand, and I'm not going to get into the status of all the territories and whatnot.

I do a longer road trip than that every year. Planning it again this year, with a spiffy side trip that includes hiking up Pike's Peak.

Should be good times.

If everyone had a stop sign someone could have prevented this from happening.

I was expecting more too seeing "across Europe" in the URL. Assuming he wasn't taking crazy detours, Google Maps has that trip at about 8hrs 15min

Well, western Europe is fairly small, the continent is fairly large (EU is 4.3M km^2 vs 9.6M for the US and Europe at 10.1M). When I take the wife to Europe we'll land in German, drive through Austria, Slovenia, and across most of Italy and it'll be less driving than we did for Thanksgiving this year.

Okay, I stand corrected. I do recall driving from Frankfurt to Aviano in one day years ago, so I guess Italy to Poland is not out of the question. Thanks!

If driving from northern Italy to Poland equals "across Europe" then Denver to Albuquerque will take you across the US.

If you really wanna talk road trip, check this guy out (I assume, he's already had his 15 minnits of Fark fame).

I love a good road trip.  My longest: Austin, Tx to Vancouver, BC and back, hitting up all the National Parks along the way.
Next week, Estes Park, CO to Austin, Texas.  To see a band.

/loves to drive!
