Meh, I have them both (Verizon on new iPad, AT&T on my iPhone 5) and I find them pretty even.

The one difference that really pissed me off about Verizon on iPad is, they don't allow one to buy international travel on it unless you are also a regular contract customer -- ie, not just buying data on the device.

With my older AT&T iPad if I went overseas I could just pre-buy a bucket of data to use on it.

Don't believe that? Go into a Verizon iPad with cellular and try and buy an international data package.

Yep. My Android tablet will out perform an iPad at a fraction of the cost. This guy probably had Steve Jobs exhumed, stuffed, and placed by his mantle so he can fellate him thrice daily.

AT&T has been so busy installing Tektronix GeoProbes in and around major population hubs that it doesn;t have the resources to do towers.  The lovely GeoProbe is installed with a default to capture 20% of all data and voice calls, drop them to a 10-16 drive disk array running 3GB SS drives.  This array is setup to Read/Write at incredible speeds as the data captured is immediately uploaded to regional collection points.  It's aluminum foil hat kid of stuff.  I get it, AT&T has been in bed with Uncle Sam since the late 1800's, their Bell Labs research team is pretty damn incredible and was the seed for DARPA's beginnings, but they've systematically run roughshod over their customers with little to no concern for user rights, privacy or  legal precedents to do so.

It depends. Under classic AT&T GSM/HSPDA, 'bars' are almost certainly signal strength. There is the possibility that if AT&T were installing more towers in the area, they turned down the power on the closest tower to him, and so in improving the overall network made it a little weaker in his particular spot.

Under Verizon/Sprint's CDMA or under LTE networks for any of them, the 'bars' could be measuring signal/noise ratios. And under a code-division scheme, other users of the frequency are interpreted as noise, so more subscribers in an area could (if that's what 'bars' mean) result in fewer bars.

FTFA: I did lose the ability to talk on the phone while surfing the web, and inexplicable decision on Verizon's part and a deal breaker for some users, but that's a feature I literally never used anyway.

He's probably comparing a $99 Huawei Android-phone-of-the-week (that was originally released a year and half ago and is still running Android 2.1) from MetroPCS to his brand-new iPhone 5 (which is $650 from Verizon without contract). On such a comparison, he's probably right, Android does look weak. But it's not a fair comparison. Let's see him do the same comparison with the iPhone 5 versus a flagship Android phone, like the Samsung Galaxy S III or the Galaxy Note II.

Of course that'll never happen. He's already decided that Apple is, like, totally the BEST, so he doesn't see any need to compare a recent offering from an Android manufacturer to Apple's latest because he's already reached his conclusion.

Lost interest in the article at this point, kept reading for another few lines and closed the page.

I had the misfortune of working for Verizon for about six months. Verizon is absolutely full of lies and deceit - far more than AT&T or any other carrier (ya reely).

They promise the world, deliver it, and then you find out they're charging you for things you didn't ask for or order (their software is actually designed to do this). Then, when you complain and they say they removed it, they didn't and you will continue to be charged. Then, when you cancel your service with them, they'll contact you several months later telling you that you owe them several hundred dollars for a past due account (that actually happened to me).

I have first-hand experience with the inside of their organization and Verizon is by far the most dishonest company I've ever experienced or worked for.
