I would like to say I'm shocked and astonished by this display of idiocy and incompetence on the part of both the suspect and the St. Petersburg PD...

...I'd LIKE to, but I live here, and frankly it doesn't surprise me at all.

That's some fine police work there, Lou.

Couldn't resist

It's just so clever of them to hide the keys under the sun visor, isn't it?

I'm going to end all my sentences with, police said.

Ok, so she flagged down a guy, and stole his phone. Then he chased her to where she stole a police cruiser, but the guy didn't try to tell the police that this crazy lady just stole one of their cars?? The police had to realize this on their own when they were done with the domestic call they were on??

That's not a bad idea, according to the report.

Most police cars have a hidden foot switch that one needs to depress in addition to depressing the brake pedal before being able to shift the transmission out of "park" (my wife's dad is a cop, as are several friends of mine so they've taken me out as an observer on several occasions; very interesting). This is to prevent this specific occurrence.

Either the woman knew about the hidden switch or the car wasn't equipped with one. Either way, hilarity ensued.

How embarrassing must it have been to be those officers, call dispatch, and say your police car wasn't where you left it and you think it's been stolen? Imagine the shiat they got from whoever had to come pick them up.

They alerted other officers of the theft and notified Tampa police and the Florida Highway Patrol to be on the lookout for the stolen car, authorities said.

Missed opportunity for more hilarity if FHP did felony stops on every St. Petersburg police car they spotted.

Another reason why cops hate domestic complaint calls.

I'm surprised this kind of thing doesn't happen more often, around here the police always leave their car running, regardless of where they stop. I once waited outside a police station for about 4 hours while a friend took car of some business with them. The whole time there was a cop car parked at the curb and running.

Are there no highways? Did the lights and siren not work? How fast can a borrowed police car go? Over 120? Could the woman have survived on french fries scattered on the seat and floor of the cruiser?

Yakety Sax is the name of the song, which happens to be the theme to Benny Hill's show, which the headline reference because of the car chase.
