Just needs to be turned into an animated gif, with the subject scrolling. I wore one of those for years.

Voted, mostly for nostalgia.

Poor photoshop but actual history -- these three guys worked on TDRS-1 from inception to launch to decommissioning. Here they are out at White Sands moving it to a decommissioning orbit. The one in the blazer is my pop.

Huh. TDRS was built by my old outfit, TRW (back when there *was* a TRW...). Their job was to serve as a constellation of data relays, so ground stations and satellites - even ones not yet envisioned when the TDRS's were launched - could communicate without having to have direct line-of-sight. Big orbital switchboards/amplifiers/routers.

Never saw one still folded up; it doesn't look like much that way. I wish I could post a pic of one of these unfolded, as it looks in orbit. I always thought they were the gaudiest birds in the sky, like a big orbital Faberge egg.

There's one on display, unfolded, hanging over the Space Shuttle Discovery, at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Annex in Dulles, Virginia.

If I had the skills, I'd shop the 'O' as a caterpillar, have a cocoon stage, then the unfolded TDRS emerging.

/good days, my friend.
