zvoidx: brap: While I could appreciate the level of musicianship and syncopation, if I was actually trapped somewhere and had to listen to more than 45 seconds of it I would grab the nearest sharp instrument and ram it through my eardrum until I felt death's sweet release.

ditto... obviously all capable musicians, but the actual sounds don't resonate with me.

Just because they can run up and down the guitar necks and drums sets doesn't make it "good". They're just notes/more notes doesn't necessarily equal "better" music - it's not an athletics competition.

I can get into a song like Abacab, because it has more space in between sounds and has a heavy groove...it's not bee-boppin' and scattin' all over the place.

MOZART:So then you like it? You really like it, Your Majesty?
EMPEROR:Of course I do. It's very good. Of course now and then - just now and then - it gets a touch elaborate.
MOZART:What do you mean, Sire?
EMPEROR:Well, I mean occasionally it seems to have, how shall one say? How shall one say, Director?
ORSINI-ROSENBERG:Too many notes, Your Majesty?
EMPEROR:Exactly. Very well put. Too many notes.
MOZART:I don't understand. There are just as many notes, Majesty, as are required. Neither more nor less.

That "they're just notes" comment kind of reminds me when my 60 year old parents says "it's just noise to a beat" when he hears anything metal, or anything not country..

It's some avant garde shiat, no question, but the melody was there, I heard it.. I don't know, I thought it was pretty cool... People are contempt when it comes to music sometimes, myself included. Growing up I hated most things 80's, especially pop, now I'm rediscovering new bands all the time realizing how dumb I was for not liking them in the first place. Personally I would have never guessed it was Phil behind the kit, he is definitely more versatile than I originally thought. Got to check out some more music from that dude.. if you don't like that, eat me.
