(Yahoo)   Mike Gundy is apparently a 40-year old man who fires his 66-year old defensive coordinator because college football is "a young man's game" and his age hurt recruiting   (sports.yahoo.com ) divider line

If you let a bunch of teenagers choose who your coaches will be, you're never going to be any good.

Were Young a litigious man, he'd have grounds for a nice lawsuit on his hands.

I came here to say this.

Dick LeBeau, age 75, may disagree.

Well that's a stupid thing to say. Just tell him his defenses aren't cutting it or something.

This type of thing should be common sense, but if it's not, policies and laws should be covered on day one with the administration.

This isn't thirty years ago and you don't get to use ignorance, i.e., "I'm jus' a football coach!" in this day and age as Joe Paterno did. I say that as a generality, since this is an evolving story, but exposing your employer to potential lawsuits is very high up on the list of things they don't like their employees to do.

I prefer the previous "That ain't truuuuue!"

Also didn't the article mention that the OSU defense was terrible this year? Wouldn't that be a good enough reason to fire him alone? Get a coach who can coach up defense based off that offensive scheme they run?

Bullsh_t.

Young is disgruntled. He is unhappy that his contract wasn't renewed so he could continue to screw OSU's chances to win anything. His defense sucked and he was let go. Plain and simple. The only difference is that he was given 11 months notice.

I hope none hires this old pu_sy.

Also, this worthless article was based on an even more worthless article written by a worthless sportswriter named Jenny Carlson from the Daily Oklahoman. She's a hack that regularly writes sourceless, baseless articles bashing Gundy and OSU.

Oh, did I mention how worthless all of this is?

How about firing him because the defense hasn't been able to stop anybody for years.

Heh, didn't notice it, but that's the same author who wrote the piece that set Gundy off on his (in)famous rant.

Apparently, per internet rumor (and you know how these things go), the kid Mike Gundy was defending in his "I'm a man" rant now holds him personally responsible for his life sucking. This was my thought on that:

So basically Bobby Reid is a crybaby who can't handle getting bullied, doesn't stand up for himself and resents those that do stand up for him? Maybe that's why he transferred to an 0-11 team, couldn't get drafted, and barely played a year at Arena level. He did absolutely everything right...up until the moment Gundy defended him. Then he did absolutely everything wrong. That's his fault, not Gundy's.

...and apparently, it extends to coaches, too.

So, are you saying that the guy is playing the age card and Gundy didn't really make those remarks?

Again, I'm talking in terms of potential legal ramifications, not whether or not Gundy is a douchebag and some of the people around him happen to be overly sensitive. Being a douchebag doesn't violate civil rights laws. Age discrimination does.

Doubtful. It took turning a blind eye to horrific crimes for years for almighty Saint Paterno to lose his effectiveness. Well, that and he died. But my point stands.
