"I did it because we live here for six years and I want to take my daughter to a place that is iconic and I had the means to help out," Pyken said, "but Janis made her decision."

yeah, you really put down some roots here carpetbagger... What you saw was an opportunity to franchise a local business and make a ton of dough.

/good on 'em selling to the head chef, sounds like a happy ending.

They ran out of profit. Oh well, should have made better food

Anyone eaten there?

Is it better than Taco Bell?

Do they take $2 bills?

Doesn't seem sad at all. She's telling the landlord to fark off, and letting her employee carry the torch. Spiffy tag must be off somewhere looking for napkins and hot sauce.

Never tried Henry's but I heard it sucks compared to Tito's in Culver City.

Then again, Tito's wants $2.30 or so per taco.

How freaking high was the rent to make the buyers want a $50k reduction in the sale price?

"I'm scratching my head, frankly," Pyken said. "I thought we could work out something. We gave Janis everything she asked for."

Except, you tried to jack her up for FIFTY THOUSAND GODDAMNED DOLLARS.

Go way, you carpet-baggin' asshole.

/Not from LA, but hate carpet baggers in general.

I sell the business at a loss to someone that actually cares about it, we move the business to a new location, we take the sign, and you assholes are out both rent and business? That's how my boss did it, when the landlord tripled the rent. The landlord was counting on us as an anchor store, selling art, vintage iron, and antiques. Well, those things all take up a lot of space, and my boss found a better location a few miles away. Now, there's a touristy t-shirt shop where we used to be.

It looks the same as a taco bell taco.

If that is what you want why not just buy a pack of shells and make your own?

Negotiation 101 FAIL

If your plan B ALREADY is to say fark you to the people you are in negotiations with, then the negotiations should have gone more like this.

Vulture: Rent deal not good, we need to drop the price $50K.
Owner: Really? I don't give a shiat. The price just went UP $10K. Take it or leave it, biatch.

What's the downside? They walk? So what?

My only question with this is how in the world have you been there for 51 years and you don't own the property?

I mean the place takes up half a lot and 50 years ago you could get a lot more in LA than you could now, especially in the Valley.

That said, fark Beverly Hills absentee property owners. I'm for anything that screws Beverly Hills or its citizens.

Henry's Sucks.

Also, it's in the valley. Not LA.

It would be like calling a place in Schaumberg an iconic Chicago institution.

Most of the San Fernando Valley is a part of Los Angeles, with the exceptions of Burbank and, ironically enough, San Fernando. Henry's is in Studio City, just another part of LA which isn't really its own city.

I used to live close by Tito's, and I was always amazed that people liked it so much. My theory is since it's open late, they get a lot of drunks that think they're the best tacos ever, and won't admit they're wrong when they go there sober.

But Titos does have a catchy jingle.

This

There is a burrito place down town that I used to rave about. Then I went their sober and in the daylight once and found out the food sucked.

I never had a reason to go down town during the day. The thing is office space and bars; all the retail died out years ago when the mega mall was built on the edge of town. The ironic part is that now the mall is half empty and in bankruptcy. Still, down town is the place to get drunk and hang out. 15-20 bars within walking/stumbling distance of each other. Also within walking distance of a high end liberal arts college. You could always tell the ballet chicks by the obviously gay ballet guys they hung out with. Oh and the fact that they were all smoking hot and had thighs that could crack walnuts.

/the girls, not the guys
//well I suppose the guys too if your into that kind of thing

Tex mex is real food and has a much longer history than taco bell style.
