Shouldn't they have a Stampede of the Penguins?

Sybarite: Shouldn't they have a Stampede of the Penguins?

That'll be in July.  It's the warm up to the zoo rodeo.  Ever see a cowboy go 8 seconds on a Bengal tiger?  It's really a thing to behold.

Given the abundance of overdrinking during Stampede... I'd pay to watch that!

Also, Standing around 3-feet and weighing up to 35 lbs., king penguins... Who wants a Penturducken? POW!

I'm picturing a bengal playing with the clown barrel like a cat playing with a ball of yarn now

Am I the only one who wanted a pet penguin growing up.

/ I felt that they could live in the freezer

Isn't the zoo worried that he penguins will try to go some place warmer and less desolate, say like Antarctica?

They'd die on the trek through Saskatchewan

Wish so much to say this could be good idea, draw more Zoo visitors -- but somehow fear to. Someone may figure a way for it to get entirely out of hand.

Oh, man.  I've always wanted the opportunity to kidnap a penguin and raise it as my own.

They're not the first zoo to let inhabitants wander around (when it's not really busy, at least). Last time I went to the Edmonton zoo one of the keepers was taking two of the wolves for a walk, and while I was taking pictures of the tigers Lucy the elephant snuck up behind me and tried to explore the contents of my purse.

They let the peacocks roam free in the summer and as far as I know nobody has stollen one. And penguins can probably put up more of a fight.

This is Sir Nils Olav who takes part in the penguin parade at Edinburgh Zoo. He's Colonel-in-Chief of the Norwegian Royal Guard.

I wouldn't want to steal a peacock because they seem high maintenance.  Penguins, though, seem cool.  I'd totally steal one.  We could sit on the couch (I'd provide a block of ice to make him more comfortable), watch movies and drink beer.  Plus, I'd try to find him a girl penguin, to provide him some sexual release.  Wouldn't keep the girl penguin, though.  As soon as my bro penguin got his jollies, I'd take the girl back.

I run a bachelor pad and don't need any broads telling us to curb our dude habits...even if the broad is a penguin.

Good for local news, but Main page worthy here? Lots of zoos do penguin walks during the winter.

Local, Not Subby. Given the Calgary Zoo's penchant for killing animals, putting their penguins on a death march is apropos.

Back off, M-G.  We don't got much going on here in Calgary in the dead of winter until we get hockey back.  Let us have this.  It's all we got.

It's a good idea. Animals can get plenty bored in the zoo, but they are just as interested in us as we are in them.

Is this some sort of political statement

FTA:

"the four male and four female king penguins (males have a band on their right wing while females have one on their left)"

Well, I have something to look forward to in two wednesdays now ....

No, that's a standard banding system for birds when you can't tell their gender by appearance. Makes it easier and less complicated to identify them.
