But direct commissioning in the reserves for technical fields is pretty common. And it's an accelerated program which has changed from time to time to be more or less time consuming depending on the winds of change.

Using your definition there is no such thing as "boot camp" for enlisted, either, since each service calls it something else officially. OCS/OTS are very much "boot camps" for officers, since each is a roughly 3 month long introduction to military life. "Direct Commission" programs produce technical specialists in a few weeks, who are not part of the regular chain of command. In contrast, OCS/OTS grads must pass the same (or more rigorous) physical and mental standards as enlisted in boot camp, qualify with small arms, etc.

That's what this is. An argument about type of service. No... I just don't like people who use it for a political agenda like that, unless there is some serious distinction to their service. Aside from that? Those who served just served. That's it. It's not a bumper sticker to be bandied about.
