I think the GOP is going to block Obama because they can.  they don't actually have any substantive objections to Obama's cabinet choices, but they're kind of in a mean/petty/spiteful head space these days and well...they just don't LIKE Obama very much.  they'd veto Obama's lunch menu if they thought they could get away with it.  they'd fire his pets too.  egg his car.  TP the white house.  they really just hate the guy, not just his politics but many Republicans seem to take Obama's existence as a direct, personal insult.

Remember the second Presidential debate?  At one point it almost looked as if Romney was going to burst a blood vessel and vomit blood...all because Obama...TALKED BACK to him.  first time in his life someone did that and Romney couldn't have the uppity sonuvabiatch fired for it.  I think that attitude is common amongst the GOP leadership.

Am I supposed to be surprised? These people tried to make a scandal out of him asking for spicy mustard... for his BURGER. These people tried to make a scandal out of his wife suggesting that kids stop being such fatfarks. These people tried to make a scandal out of his daughter being seen with a grass stained t-shirt in the WH. Everything this man said or did for the last four years has triggered outrage, and will continue to trigger outrage from these people for the next four years.

"This is another person just very personally close to the president," Sessions protested. Lew should not be confirmed, the senator said, because "the budget that he wrote was condemned by The Washington Post, virtually every major newspaper in the country."

If this is true, it will make the Benghazi scandal look like an overblown misunderstanding by comparison.

The thing is that they don't know that a word like 'context' exists. They look at Bush's terms and just think 'Well the left criticized him so we will criticize Obama. Payback's a biatch libs!' without looking at WHY Bush was criticized.

I wish the right did apples to oranges comparisons. It would be an improvement over their current apples to mailboxes comparisons.

Shouldn't you guys be concentrating on being outraged about people standing up for the 2nd ammendment instead of being outraged about a non-story op-ed like this?

I'm just waiting for the day when the Senate decides that it's their prerogative to block every Cabinet appointee they feel like, as they would for legislation. The fact that the president is generally given his way on appointments is one of the few functional features of our government remaining.

Apparently the more conservative Dems are even getting pissed off about this and that's helping Reid's push for real filibuster reform.

All the Senators should be pissed about this. Even the GOP should know that, someday, they might regain a majority in the Senate and maybe then they might want to actually pass laws. I just don't see why we don't make Senators actually farking filibuster stuff. It reminds me of the military concept of a paper blockade.

Policy comes from the White House. If you have a problem with Obama's appointments it should not be with the person being appointed it should be with the fact that these people and the policies they advocate are in sync with the White House. These appointments represent the policy of the Obama Administration.

Actually, Democrats were upset by appointments for grossly unqualified people and people whose experience and established viewpoints pointed to them being actively bad at the job they were appointed to.
