How many "milestone" shows do they do? It seems like they're always patting themselves on the back for something. And it's only to trot out the guys from 20-30 years ago.

Well, they are the longest running primetime cable sports entertainment show featuring a guy with a droopy face wearing a cowboy hat and a man who had a heart attack live on-air while wearing a crown and an Ed Hardy shirt.

Actually, RAW is a completely different show than Prime Time Wrestling was.

PTW was just taped matches from house shows across the country. RAW was WWF's first attempt at a live card from one arena aired on cable*.

/not counting the regional house shows broadcast in New York, Philadelphia, and Boston.

Please...

The WWE hasn't changed since the dawn of Professional Wrestling. The reason people think it 'used' to be good is that they just happened to be between 11-16 or whatever the demographic is. Now that you are older, you can see it for what it has always been....and now you think it's crap. Just like every non-fan has always said.

But sure, if you feel better, pretend that it just happened to be cool during the time period when you and your same-aged friends thought it was cool.

And then at the last minute, change it all up and stick it in the Geek tab for a few weeks, then bury it for life because it didn't go over with Vince's help.

Not quite.

Nitro and Eric Bischoff killed the career jobber enhancement talent.

Vince was still putting squash matches on RAW until Nitro came along and put on a PPV caliber show every week. Then Vince had to up his game, and now we're stuck with what we have.

Can you imagine explaining that main event to a kid today?

You'd have to explain what Too Cool and Rikishi were then explain why yes, they did deserve to be in that match.

Then you'd have to explain who the Radicalz were and why them showing up was such a huge deal, even though half of them didn't amount to a whole lot in WWE, one of them married Vickie Guerrero, and one of them NEVER EXISTED,

I remember going to a live show. It was the Raw the Monday before Owen Hart showed the world he couldn't fly. The live show was boring enough without hearing commentary from good ole JR, but the sounds I did hear turned me off of wrestling for good. Sitting behind me was a pair of kids no older than seven, screaming fark YOU at the top of their lungs, calling every female wrestler a slut and a whore and screaming "I'm going to kill you" when (I believe) HHH walked out into the ring. This was right in the era subby deems "watchable."

So, kids with shiatty parents somehow makes the era less watchable?

Reminds me of going to a show around that time (Owen was still alive, so probably 6 months before yours), there was this three year old with a mullet in front of me screaming "KICK THE fark OUT OF HIM UNDERTAKER!" and his dad (also appropriately mulleted) encouraging him. Needless to say, I was more than a little mortified in front of my friends who were going out of curiosity and were also thoroughly disgusted with the behavior.

Ever since then, I've said that wrestling doesn't make me embarrassed to be a wrestling fan. Other wrestling fans make me embarrassed to be a wrestling fan.

That and Katie Vick. That was pretty embarrassing.

Reminds me when I went to RAW in 2011 (The Muppets episode). There were two rednecky college guys hating on Cena who dropped the F bomb towards the end of the show and this guy who was there with his family was like "Hey!" and then security came over and told them not to curse. Besides them the only people harassing the wrestlers were these 3-4 guys at ringside (also rednecks) chanting "You're a cheerleader" at Dolph Ziggler. By the time the show ended a lot of the crowd was gone because it was a school night.

I think you'd have seen the bump the next week. Nitro would've started out strong for the first hour as people wanted to see the fall out from the Fingerpoke of Doom, then as soon as Raw started they'd have switched channels to see the aftermath of Mankind's title victory. The fact that so many people switched shows that there was a legitimate interest in seeing Mankind win the title, so I think that hook would have worked the next week even without people wanting to tune in to see a title change.

Yeah, not to mention, people switched back to Nitro immediately after Foley won the belt and the show went off the air to see the fallout from the Fingerpoke (or, the Fingerpoke itself).

Either way, Foley would have helped RAW, and the Fingerpoke would have hurt Nitro.

This. I don't think it made that huge of a difference in the long run, but was ironic in that him saying that cost Nitro the ratings that night. Although the Fingerpoke of Doom did a lot more harm to WCW in the long run than either the announcement of the title change or Mankind winning the title.
