There is nothing lower than a tool (or hay) thief.

Around these parts, that "stolen" hay has a fair chance of having a couple pounds of other "shrubbery" bailed in the bales. Once in a while somebody gets popped for it.

It isn't surprising when you consider the continuing widespread drought and high prices of fuel and fertilizer.

"Hay"? Is that what the kids are calling it nowadays?

Yeah, hay does tend to get hot if you bale it too green.

Unless you get caught in the act its kinda hard to prove its stolen and not yours. I hear round bales was going for upwards of a C note each out west during theheight of the drought

Theft is why you should get your hay in one ton bales. It's no random punk that can steal that.

Well, that explains that.

Been wondering why I have seen so many people selling hay from the back of their trucks lately. I thought it was underhanded, now I'm certain of it.

/Fark is actually relevant to my life for once.

NPR had a segment a couple of weeks ago about this type of thing happening in Oklahoma. Eventually, the sheriff planted a GPS tracker in a bale and caught the thief red-handed.

I thought this stuff was supposed to sort itself out among gun-owing, law-abiding Red Staters, but apparently it hasn't yet.

/thieves suck

It's the high demand for material around Fark. Those strawmen won't make themselves, you know.

/yes, yes, I know the two aren't quite the same thing
//now, if you'lI excuse me, I must take my leaves and stalk off

Square bales are up to $10 a piece out here in Michigan. My sister runs a small horse farm. It's getting pretty pricey to keep boarders around because even at $10 a bale it is hard to find hay.

I told her she could solve her problems with hydroponically sprouted fodder.
