This. As long as his administration has a little fun every now and again, a lot of people seem to be willing to give it a nice set of passes.

He only really got energized in any meaningful way to push the health care act and now more gun control.

Where was this Obama last term to push closing Guantanamo, stop warrant less wiretapping, become more transparent, curb the excesses of the Patriot Act, leave medical marijuana clinics alone or any of the other things alluded to or outright promised during his 2008 campaign?

I don't recall him demanding action, setting deadlines, convening blue ribbon panels, shedding any crocodile tears, or putting out any bullshiat staged photos of him being really sad over dozens of people effectively interned at Guantanamo for years without trial.

I doubt he sheds any tears for all the innocent people killed by his administration's use of drones or all the people who die in the drug war related violence that his administration happily continues.

He's a self-centered celebrity and a craven, opportunistic piece of shiat.

Geeves00: Dimensio: TheManofPA: adjmcloon: But building a Death Star with that vulnerability would be EXACTLY what the gov't would normally do.

Any contractor working on that Death Star knows the risk involved. If they get killed, it is their own fault.

All those innocent contractors brought in to do the job were killed - casualties of a war they had nothing to do with. All right, look: you're a roofer, some juicy government contract comes your way. You got a wife and kids, the two-story in suburbia. This is a government contract, which means all sorts of benefits. Along come these left-wing militants that blast everything within a three-mile radius with their lasers. You didn't ask for that. You have no personal politics. You're just trying to scrape out a living.

As much as I'm enjoying the Clerks banter, I have to take umbrage with the "innocent contractors" nonsense.

First, the use of droid labor is extensive in Star Wars. The vast majority of structural assembly would be done by industrial droids like binary load-lifters or EVS droids.

Second, why would the Empire use civilian contractors on a project they wanted kept secret (or at least secret enough to make the Bothan intel believable? They nationalized a number of commercial guilds after the Clone Wars (except the Banking Clan); they would easily have the resources to internally handle the construction process, albeit at a rate not satisfactory to Palpatine.

Finally, let's assume they did hire outside contractors. What companies are they going to trust with this project? Corellian Engineering? The Empire knew CEC was selling CR90 corvettes and DP20 gunships out the back door. Incom? Not after their design team bailed with the T-65 blueprints; hell, the Empire won't even buy the I-7 Howlrunner in large quantities. Alderaan Royal Engineers? They blew that chance - literally. Kuat Drive Yards and Sinear Fleet Systems? They're so far in bed with the Empire, there's no room for "innocent" there.

TL; DR: I like Kevin Smith and Clerks, but the "innocent contractors" argument is a load of poodoo.

Let's look at our prior choices:

1. Idiot from Texas on a mission from God.
2. Charming lecherous womanizer, elected mainly because he is a great public speaker.
3. Bland guy who was elected mainly because his competition for the job looked like a doofus when he climbed into a tank.
4. B-Movie Actor elected mainly because he gives good speeches and was photogenic.
5. Naive peanut farmer who turned out to be better as a goodwill ambassador than a President.
6. Unelected ineffectual clutz.
7. Slimy, oily crook that was the most corrupt POTUS in the 20th century.
8. Uptight, heartless prick who got the office because the guy before him got shot.
9. Charming womanizer elected mainly because he was a great public speaker and was a war hero.

We don't elect our Presidents for being a "responsible, adult leader". We choose them mainly on if they are a good public speaker, are photogenic on camera and on TV, and if they seem likable to a majority of people.

If you pull the president's dick out of your mouth and reread what I wrote, you'll see that I directed my attention at Obama and things he does and does not do.

Congress does not set his priorities, nor does it force to him to demand deadlines from Congress. Obama seems to be very light on calling for any action on the things that were so important during his 2008 campaign and THAT is why I posted what I did.

If you want to pretend that he's just this great guy who just can't do all the great things he wanted to because of Congress, fine. Just make sure to wipe your chin when he's done.

You have an interestingly broad interpretation of the activities and responsibilities of the Chief of the Science and Space Branch at the White House Office of Management and Budget.
