I'm pretty sure that's what they wanted.  You can't be alone in that closet, that would be miserable.

It's all the military around the Springs.

Colorado Springs was always the home of pioneers like Pike of Pike's Peak fame and Tesla. Dobbs and the elevangelists are the nonnative carpetbagging species.

Gotta go where the sinners are, I guess.

Based on the past behavior of people involved in groups like that, I'm sure there's a big market for escorts and bathhouses there.

Republican men, when they aren't screwing over the middle class, they're screwing each other!

I've spent a lot of time in the Springs - large gay population.  I blame the military.

How exactly do they rate "gayness" to come up with 13th? Number per 100,000? Most fabulous Mardi Gras parade?

I dunno what particular study this particular article is referencing, but usually "gayest city" means largest number of same-sex couple households per thousand. So really, it doesn't count gay people, but committed gay people living together.

The Greek city-state of Thebes had a 300-strong Special Forces regiment out of gay supersoldiers, knowing that a queer ninja-level grunt would fight like hell rather than look like a little biatch in front of his boyfriend.

It worked pretty well, until they met up with Alexander the Great's dad, who was nonetheless pretty impressed:

Kansas City has gotten pretty gay over the past 10 years.

What about Lexington, KY? How gay is this place?

By the way, Shoeshine Cobb died a few years ago; has another Village Idiot been (s)elected yet? If not, how would one go about getting nominated? Would standing around on Mail Street holding a "PICK ME!" sign do?

I take it that the lack of oxygen causes brain defects.

Since when are Christianity and homosexuality mutually exclusive? It's not cool with fundamentalists but most Christians that I know personally love everyone regardless of their sins. It's that whole "we're all sinners" mentality and treat others as you wish to be treated. It's a shame, and rather sacreligious, that people full of hate tend to be the loudest and consequently the most attention gathering and end up being the face for more of the religion than they actually are. It also makes for easy fodder for criticism of Christianity and religion in general. Though it is also often overlooked how nice it is that we have such diversity in America with a modicum of daily violence.

/grammar collapse but I'm a bit farked up right now.

Edit: Actually, the criteria are rather specific but still inaccurate for this particular study. (New Window) 3 of the top 5 are in my state, though. That's pretty cool. Even though Tacoma and Spokane are horrible places regardless of orientation.

That would explain the Focus on the Family people.
