I'd have assumed that was called Thursday to him.

Er, Sure, maybeoneday like this. Once in a while.
Note it was stated by his biographer.

Must have been some really cut coke to want to eat after doing some so often.....

He did not fark around.  I am glad that I did not insist my sons name be Hunter S just days before he biatched out and put one in his brain case.  farkin loser!

Felafel is made from garbanzo beans, I'll bet bean fritter is similar and quite delicious in a cocaine haze, served alongside a nicely spicy bloody mary.

Kinda makes you wonder if our modern chemically engineered diet and environment are what are causing epidemic obesity and innumerable health issues instead of the things that are demonized and blamed for those issues. That and people being exponentially more sedentary than any time in history. Hunter S was interesting but I lose all respect for anyone who quits life.

Anyone who read any of his books knows that was a typical day for him. Why is this somehow astonishing?

loral: Must have been some really cut coke to want to eat after doing some so often.....

Yup, drinking and coke all day, yeah, I can buy it, throwing a trip on top of it, well, maybe if you're a pro, but stuffing your face like an animal after 5 rails of blow?

Did his biographer note the copius vomit after the dose of acid?

I dunno, before my time really, but this seems fishy, but hell, maybe he was superhuman.

I had a lot of friends who lived like H. S. Thompson.

"Had" is the operative word here, I'm 53, they're all dead.

/I miss them all

Yeah, I don't believe any of that. MAYBE he had a few days like that when he was in his 20s.

Thompson was very good at creating his own legend. Even his suicide fits right into it.

No shiat. The last thing, from what I've heard, is I want to eat after 6 rails of coke.

Acid doesn't make you hurl. It might make you forget that eating is meaningful, but I never noticed any nausea.

Shrooms are a different thing entirely, though. Belly city.

The curse of a long life: you have to watch all your friends die.

Once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

2013-01-12 01:37:12 AM
The list is funny, but seems be complete bullshiat.

Thompson refused to even speak with the biographer who wrote that list. He definitely did a lot of drugs, but not like that.

You say that like it's a joke, but my aged grandmother is heading for 97 and has outlived three sets of friends. Not surprisingly, she gets a bit depressed from time to time.

Me too.

HST was a wild man no doubt about it but if you've read "The Great Shark Hunt" you 'd realize the editor included some of his personal letters.  HST was far more coherent than that list of chemistry experiments would suggest.  I've known a woman that would book his appearances.  She said he was paranoid but wicked smart.

He must have been on some serious drugs to go from 3:50pm, time travel to "4:95" for some future coffee, then return at 4:15pm for some coke.

Kids today. Acid doesn't make you vomit. Nor does mushrooms, unless you are dumb enough to ingest amanita. Mescaline will cause you to puke like crazy for a while.

Never believed anything else written by or about him. No reason to start with this. He missed his true calling which wasn't gonzo journalism, it was doing publicity. He should have had more clients than just himself.

Nature will occasionally produce a beast capable of this excess. Errol Flynn died at 50, but they had to pry a teenager off him and he showed a capacity for substances that should have killed him by 33.

you get used to it. you can take a nap after all that with a little 'practice'

He was an addict. The amounts may be an exaggeration but he had to do his daily maintenance. Suicide may seem to be a reasonable solution for an addict that can't quit. Sounds like hell on earth.

what cracks me up about Hunter is that he was basically friends with every big name journalist for years and with people you'd never imagine him being good friends with like, like Tom Wolfe. Yes one of his good friends was a man who wear custom tailored white suits. Though he's not the fuddy duddy he may seem to be.

You can do anything with a little practice. Maintaining the erection after the hooker's clearly dead, like such as.

Possibly. Once or twice a year or three, a day like this is possible.

Maintaining? Probably not. You'll end up with awesome things like pancreatitis, liver failure, and a whole host of mental problems.

HST was never my thing, regardless of my youthful penchant for consumables, so, no I never read his stuff. however, to me, it reeked of embellishment, and when I see things like this, it just solidifies my assumptions.

How is it possible to consume that much coke? How did his heart just not give up the ghost?

2013-01-12 04:18:27 AM
Apparently I am one of the few folks in this past few decades that did some justice to the term 'visionary'. Besides everything else I did in my life, between the ages of 17 and 25, I consumed between 3, 000- 5, 000 hits of lysergic acid, probably 2-3 pounds of mushrooms, a couple pounds of cannabis, an ounce of pure meth, smoked ground peyote, tobacco and cheap beer. I once took 50 hits of liquid LSD by accident, but rode the trip. And some of you motherfarkers wonder why I consider myself a Christian, but still honor Odin, Buddha, and pure light? Farkin' PUSSIES.

unless your style is to take 10 each time, which is not a very responsible practice.

I've read his stuff and been less-than-impressed. Sure, he came out with one or two incredibly insightful nuggets- but even a broken clock's right twice a day. He was no more truly original than any other alky writer- and there's never been any major shortage of them critters- who thought various substances drunk, eaten, injected, snorted, or stuffed into various orifices were making them incredibly creative and witty.
I also suspect, like many other writers, he embellished his activities to an incredible level.
Someone further back said the curse of a long life is you get to watch all your friends die. Maybe true, but you also get to piss on a lot of arsehole's graves in the process.

2013-01-12 05:28:25 AM
Why would you do the acid in the middle of all that coke, you're not going to get a whole lot out of it?
Habit, I suppose.
