Pretty smart on Boehner's part, no pays attention to anything that comes after the truck parades.

This is just formality, isn't it?

The president chooses his own date I thought, even though the only requirement in the Constitution is "He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient"

And, when the first person yells, "Show us your boobs!", the president can then point to the Republican side of the audience.

I remember something from West Wing about the President actually needing to be invited to speak. But I thought the President could pick his own day, to avoid this kind of holiday conflict.

I'm surprised he didn't pick MLKs birthday to stir some shiat up.

He knows how petty this sort of stuff makes him look right? "Hey come speak on a night when a bunch of people won't be home so they won't watch you. But I'm totally not the guy in this whole sh*tshow who acts like a child. Nope, not me. "

Something makes me think that Boehner with his shirt off would look like zoidberg without his shell.

As a young man in New Orleans, Speaker Boehner would always look forward to Fat Tuesday...

Obama should decline the invittion and give the speech on tv or even via internet in whatever form that takes.

There is no rule that says the president has to give the speech, it is just a traditional thing dating back to the 1930s as a live speech (in its modern format). Earlier versions were in the form of a report and originally in the form of a speech way way way back wen. Given Obama has always had a good tech grasp, he should just take his message to the people and bypass those morons in congress.

If Bonehead & Co are that pathetic, what is it worth going through all that scheduling and such?

What a insipid little crybaby.

FYI, that's in 4 days. Don't think it'd fly even by the derpiest standards. Also, his inauguration is taking place on MLK Day.

I would vote straight-ticket R for the rest of my life if I got to see Boehner shuck his shirt in the middle of a session and shuffle out the door like Zoidberg, complete with "WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP" sound effects.

This. Send a letter, then commandeer the airwaves to give the address directly to the people. Follow up with an AMA on reddit or something.

Obama should just deliver the State of the Union address from the Oval Office or any place and time of his choosing. The networks will televise it no matter.

He should give it karaoke style at Cats Meow so all the hockey farkers can watch it during intermission.

He has to be invited to enter the House chamber (or the Senate, for that matter). He also doesn't have to deliver the State of the Union in person; Jefferson (who hated public speaking) simply sent a document by messenger to the Congress, and it was read out by the Speaker.

It would be kinda fun to hear Boehner have to read out Obama's speech/agenda to Congress and the nation.

Plus since she is an athiest, that means she's got no moral compass, right? Like she'll do the really nasty stuff? In that case I'd like to point out...
