Met Chris Hadfield once back when he was still Major Hadfield, and he was awesome. Just the warmest, friendliest, smartest guy.  And I think his son or nephew is a farker?

He snapped a picture of Wolfville where I went to school which pretty much made my day. I hope his efforts inspire more people to enter the sciences.

In 20 days " he has tallied more than 3,000 tweets, sending back photos and sharing experiences, on Twitter. "

So he's just a space tourist and not up there to do any actual work?

3000 tweets in 20 days is 150 tweets a day. If he has a 15 hour day, that's 10 tweets an hour. You can knock that out in 5 minutes and then you have 55 minutes to play Minesweeper.

/I expect that's so high because he's been doing PR via Twitter. Astronauts have been doing interviews while in space for a long time now. It's part of the job.

Good luck, buddy. Neighbors have been barking up that tree for years now.

Hadfield is a talented, smart guy. Musician and songwriter, too. I mean, not a GREAT one, but he's a fricking astronaut, so it's sorta like an icing of awesome on a cake of awesome filled with awesome-flavoured filling.

also, it reminded me of this episode.  Peter is in awe of the view of earth from space ... for about 3 seconds, then his cell phone slowly rises and obstructs the view out the window and he starts playing with that instead.

They do get free time you know, least they have another mutiny on a space station. Not to mention spending a few minutes here and there throughout the day aboard ISS on public outreach is just as much part of the job and as long as it doesn't impede his on station duties who cares?

Really? We can send a man into space to live for years, but you're wondering how he gets the internet up there?

Well, yeah... fast two-way communication is pretty much second on the list of interesting, curious things right after life support.

I don't know what is more amazing, the fact that Cmdr_Hadfield is sending messages from space about cleaning the ISS toilets or the fact that I'm sitting on the toilet reading messages from space on my phone. Truly we are living in the future! Science is coming out!
