Wishful thinking.

So basically, the GOP is farked either way. If it sides w/ the Tea Party, it loses General Elections. If it doesn't side w/ the Tea Party, it loses primaries. Either way, America wins.

I thought sites formatted like that were dead ages ago, so it's possible the outdated and ugly live on.

Is it January 2017 yet? That's when the "non-partisan grassroots" Tea Party will suddenly disappear.

Only if a Republican is elected.

The Tea Party will die out at the same rate everyone else in the 60+ bracket does.

Nah... as long as it's somebody white, they'll go back to being good little GOP solders and return to standing in formation. A white Democrat will still make them whine and complain but they'll do it from the elephant tent.

There's so much crap on that page that the actual article was off my screen.

I don't think we should be questioning the judgement of the Mesquite Citizen Journal, folks.

Oh, what a lovely tea party.

Now that I've RTFA, I love the second Mike's response. Parroting small government talking points while giving old people Social Security and Medicare will keep the Tea Party alive.

We're way beyond that at this point. It's not the color of Obama's skin, it's the D next to his name. If Hilary had gotten elected there would still be a Tea Party, but they'd be holding embarrassingly misspelled sexist signs instead of racist ones.

Counterfacutal: if Joe Lieberman had somehow been elected president despite his not running for it, would the Tea Party be holding anti-Semitic signs?

Prank Call of Cthulhu: It's not so much that it's dead, as its mobility scooter has run out of juice.

This is the perfect analogy for the Tea Party: A drunk, crazy old guy with no legs, stuck in the middle of the street on a mobility scooter that is out of power. He's screaming at anyone around, cursing at them for no reason, while at the same time confused that no one is coming to push him to the other side of the road.

I've seen that drunk, crazy man. It was hilarious.

... and yes, we did get him out of the street before a car came. He punched one of the guys who helped him, I guess that was his way of saying "thanks".

2013-01-11 08:28:55 AM
The Tea Party will be "over" when those that astroturfed it stop funding it.

After that they'll just be the usual disgruntled wingnuts that we are more familiar with.

I'm still waiting for a bunch of old fat white guys on Medicaid to "Water the Tree of Liberty" with armed revolution if Obama was reelected.

Yes, but they would try to be "clever" about it, like with all of the horrifyingly racist signs they make for Obama.

"I'm not a racist, my sign with Lieberman carry sacks of money just means he spends too much. And he's wearing the yarmulke because he's Jewish, do you have some problem with that? You're the racist."

Look, the wackos attracted to Tea Party politics have always existed. As long as there is a "Letters to the Editor" column in your local Mesquite journal, there will always be the same five serial sociopaths, month after month, writing OBUMMER IS A GAY NAZI MUSLIM LIZARD manifestos. The Tea Party just gives them an avenue of legitimacy to channel the hate and stupidity. The TP movement might go away, but these people won't.

Until they finally die already.

2013-01-11 08:38:58 AM
DRTFA, but the Tea Party will continue to exist as long as there are enough radical social conservatives (you know, Real Americans) to keep fanning the flames of bigotry and xenophobia amongst the right. Beck, Hannity, and Limbaugh and the other right-wing radio nutjobs will keep spewing their nonsense as well as long as sponsors are convinced people are still listening. I'd like to think Fox News learned a lesson about disinformation campaigns in news reporting from this last election cycle, but I know they didn't. It's much more easy to debate differences of opinion with people than differences of fact.

It exists as long as the Koch brothers pay Fox News to say it exists, and not a second after.

Threadjack warning:
My son worked at target. Some fat ass got one of the store scooters. Since she was so fat she ran the batteries dry just getting to the back of the store. At that point she screamed at everyone in a red shirt who walked by to get her a new scooter. They got her a new scooter which she drove around doing her shopping while cussing at red shirted people. That scooter ran out of juice too 20 mintes later and they had to get her a third. The third barely had enough power to get her through the checkout line.

Fox news is usually on in the cafeteria when I eat lunch. I can attest to your assertion that they have learned nothing. The main story while I was there was a half-hour expose on Planned Parenthood. Their feeding the same shiat sandwich to the people that watch them, because that's what they want.

FTA: I believe that they need to merge to consolidate their resources and speak with one voice, a unifying voice that they lost when FOX News Channel removed Glenn Beck.

Well sure, if you want to be taken seriously as a political force you've  gotto bring back Glenn Beck. Goes without saying.

No, Donny, these men are Tea Partiers, there's nothing to be afraid of.

Don't expect to be taken seriously by anyone with a brain.
Honestly, he looks more like he belongs on the cover of a rotgut 1970's white gospel LP you'd find at a Goodwill store.

I've thought about taking a 2nd job in retail just to get fired from it in a spectacularly glorious way, such as telling off a customer such as this.
