vintage ES335>Reissue ES335 due to electronics and wood aging.

Hey, it's something anyway. The guy walks away with two free flight vouchers, some cash, Gibson repairing his guitar for free, and a reissue version of the 1963.

I'm impressed they did anything.  Ah, the soft satisfaction of low expectations!

Companies who do things after the media runs a story don't deserve much credit, imo. At that point, it's not the company policy or great employees who are stepping up to offer good service, it's someone in charge of public relations with big budget and the ear of the executives.

It's nice for him that they did the right thing in the end, and it's all cheap PR for Gibson, but the right thing to do would've been to quietly apologize and compensate him for the loss of his guitar before some VP started screaming about how they couldn't afford to be 'United Guitars 2.0'.

Also, expect Airlines to start implementing an instrument transportation surcharge of about $100 in 3... 2...

Good publicity for Gibson, but a new vintage guitar? Gimme a break...
TFA mentioned that the guitar could be repaired, though. So that's good.

For 2 grand. Also you never really know of it can be restored completely to what it was, sound wise.

I mean it's nice they eventually did the right thing. But they destroyed a one of a kind instrument. It literally can not be replaced because of its aging. So still pretty shiatty even if the airline did the right thing after being media pressured to do so.

If that instrument was worth $10K, why would you fly with it like that? Wouldn't you have a better case? You can't just stroll on a plane with a guitar anyways, 1 carry on that will fit under your seat and a personal item motherfarker.

Is there going to be a catchy YouTube hit song to come out of this one, too?

Wait, wut?

Schneider, guitarist and singer for Hanukkah-themed rock band The LeeVees and the hockey-themed Zambonis...

You can make a living with an Megadeth version of Dreidel, Dreidel Dreidel???

I am definitely doing it wrong.

That's what you get for flying Air Greyhound.

Yeah, but if Gibson themselves are going to be handling the repair, that's going to hopefully be about as good of a repair as you can get.

Nice that it's a happy ending, but man that pic is hard to look at.

Maybe if he wasn't jewish he would have paid for a second seat to place the instrument in instead of expecting it for free just because he waved some form with a vague airline policy under the noses of some bored clerks?

Also, I bought a '76 reissue Explorer and it still had that distinctive Gibson tone. That is until I wired in a set of EMG pups.

/still trying to justify the expense of a les paul custom
// would give my left nut for Sister Rosetta Tharpe's old SG

Delta cancelled a flight on me in 2009, and didn't refund either the cost of the ticket or the amount I had to pay to Southwest to get another flight a few hours later. It was something around $500, and every time I called in I'm pretty sure whoever I was speaking to was laughing as they told me to go to hell and just try to collect a god damned penny.

Never, ever, ever flying Delta again.

guitarist and singer for Hanukkah-themed rock band The LeeVees and the hockey-themed Zambonis,

They should have laughed at him and shipped him a used Fender so he can rock out playing in his novelty acts.

Did he GET A FARKING FLIGHT CASE FOR IT THIS TIME???

Idiot. You don't ever trust anyone else with an instrument in the factory case. Ever.

For about $300 his original guitar would have survived.

We covered this in the originial thread. Yes, a flight case might have kept the guitar from falling into the crevice between those two beams. No, it probably would not have saved the guitar. The case the guitar was in bent a farking steel beam, for Christ's sake. Do you really think an ATA case can handle being crushed by what is essentially a hydraulic press?

"Delta also gave him a pair of free vouchers for future flights."

Hey, sorry we're utterly incompetent... but here, use us again!

In other news, this guy is dumb for not having a guitar of that value in a flight case, or simply a beater to travel with.

It's amazing that after one of these incidents happens every year, that the airlines still don't realize that making the situation right in a damn skippy manner costs a lot less than the loss of revenue from the media backlash.

And would it be so hard to take a small amount of appropriately-shaped storage space inside the cabin and reserve it for musical instruments that are worth more than the plane ticket? The crew have a nice little cabinet for their coats that would fit a guitar case very nicely without them even having to remove their coats.
