Gosling: Good. Face it, women want to play football. Real actual football that isn't some guy's masturbation aid. They put up with the lingerie because at least the lingerie got them on the field playing in an actual league with wins and losses and standings and playoffs and title games. Now that the idea of women playing football isn't a laugh-inducing thing anymore, they'd like to get serious about the whole thing and play in pads like everyone else. They don't want to be a frat-boy distraction. That is not their aspiration. They want to be treated like actual athletes.

And the fact that 'let's lose the lingerie' is being instantly equated with 'let's shut down the league' is really a bit infuriating.

oh so you think that we don't really want to see skimpily dressed women on the field Gosling? That we want to see the fundamentals? Is that what you think?

"Gosling": well you see...

Awww, how cute, they've started taking themselves seriously. Look guys, nobody is going to watch the players "for their athletic abilities," because their athletic abilities just aren't that great. People can see better in college football. The reason people watched this was the sex appeal and novelty. You take that away, there is no reason to watch.

Oh well, good luck to them, I expect this to fail spectacularly.

Debeo Summa Credo: I agree that this dooms the league to failure, as nobody will watch it now.

That said, the lingerie football league is an embarrassment to society and America. So we've moved up a notch thanks to this change, IMO.

Basically all of this. The LFL was pathetic and disgusting, so I commend them morally for ditching that business model. The problem is that there really isn't that much of a market for non-NFL professional football in America.

It is kind of sad this will hands down be the best headline of 2013 purely because it points out how farked up our sense of reality isand it will never be seen again after the next few days.

ShawnDoc: Technically, pool, golfing, darts are considered sports. I don't feel they should be, in my mind a "sport" should require a certain level of physical exertion and athletic ability that they don't have. Just like being able to compete professionally in Starcraft requires a tremendous amount of skill that most people don't have, I still don't consider people who play it athletes. To me they're all games, not sports, but I don't get to define what is considered a sport (sadly).

I really think ESPN or Bleacher Report or Deadspin or someone ought to have a survey on the whole sport/nonsport matter. Nobody's ever really put the matter to a nice, comprehensive vote far as I can tell. Gather up every sport we can think of, or everything that someone might even pretend is a sport (even the foregone-conclusion ones on either end, like basketball on one end and zorbing on the other, just so we have a full 0-100% spectrum; it does us no good if we come up saying everything's a sport or nothing is), and just have people run down the list going 'yes, no, no, yes, yes, yes, no, yes, no, no, yes'. And see where we stand.

Gosling: drunkest: You understand that there aren't women that can compete on a men's team? They would seriously have to be on hormone therapy or be borderline dude from the start in order to have the bone and muscle mass to take a hit from pro football players and not just lie their quivering. Im a pretty good sized person who is realtively athletic compared to the general public and i know i would just be absolutely demolished by a real linebacker hitting me.

Well, if nobody's going to watch a women's league unless it's a transparent excuse to see boobs, and the women just plain will not be permitted to compete alongside the men, what the hell are women supposed to do if they want to play professionally? Seriously. There needs to be a legitimate answer here.

Smackledorfer: I too want to play professional sports. I demand a UFC for people 5'6" and overweight with no training.

Everytime I try the world says "but you are short and not in exceptional condition" and I get cast aside. The world shoves me behind my desk job. Nerdy and out of shape. The world is unfair. I have to deal with it and unfortunately for women who want to compete at high level sports designed around gaining huge mass.

You had the option to try to get into that condition. You're a guy. You had the path open to you. So did I. We just opted not to take that path. The women often are shut out from the very start. There is simply no path available for a woman that wants to play professional football (and the LFL isn't that path either; the players don't get paid and they even have to pay their own health insurance). Their problem is different than yours. Title IX came into being for a reason.

Women are shut out from hitting the weights? Bullshiat and many a female bodybuilder would disagree.

And my ability to hit the gym doesnt help my height or frame size, nor my genetics.

There is no path for prof female football because nobody wants to pay to watch. Not me, not you, not women.

Watching girls play football is like watching a dog walk on it's hind legs. You aren't interested because they're doing it WELL you're interested because they're doing it at all.

Would it be misogynistic to create a watchable event that women naturally excel at more than men? I'm not going to give examples because there's nothing I could suggest without sounding chauvinistic. I guess the thought that's bugging me is that I never see women taking pride in things that they are better at than men, as if they themselves think they are not as impressive as the most impressive feats of men.

My dog also wants to talk. I want a solid-gold Bentley. Unfortunately, that's not the way the world works.

Does the NFL have some rule barring women from competing? Doubtful... it's probably more the point that women aren't as physically capable as men in the things that matter while playing football and thus can't be taken seriously as prospects.

Because lots of folks will tune in to watch fully clothed women play football with less skill than is seen on most high school JV fields. Can anyone name a single, successful women's sports league in the United States?

These assholes need to stop pretending that they're legitimate athletes. The only reason people watch is because they're hoping to see a tit pop out.
