The concert, set for January 18th, will also feature Nirvana bassist Kris Novoselic; Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen; fellow Foo Fighters Chris Shiflett, Taylor Hawkins, Pat Smear and Nate Mendel; Rick Springfield; Rage Against the Machine's Brad Wilk; Slipknot's Corey Taylor; Chris Goss; Alain Johannes; Fear's Lee Ving; Jessy Greene and Rami Jaffee.

Uh... they were just checking to see if we were reading, right?

Lee Ving is still alive? Who knew?

It wasn't him... it was the drummer... and i think the rest of the band kinda just nodded their head, but there have a lot of deaths in the dissident community, so i believe the band has backed off making further assertions.

The Battles, however, do.

Nate Mendel, bassist, read some book about people who were diagnosed with HIV and didn't think AIDS was related. Mendel used the band as a platform to promote the cause (or the author used Mendel or whatever), however much a cause denial can be. The author of the book was HIV+ and farking died a few years later, of, wait for it, AIDS.

The Germs were interesting, but Crash was dead before hardly anyone heard of them. Kind of hard to assert that they'd continue to make great records (they only ever released one full studio effort).

But yeah, the Foo Fighters suck hard.

It's not that he's not a nice guy. He's a super nice guy. It's that his songs are increasingly more terrible and VH-1 crowd oriented.

Well, hell, I'm not a fan of Justin Timberlake's music, but I'll be damned if he isn't right up there with Grohl when it comes to how he treats his fans and takes his fame, and himself, lightly. The guy makes a ton of money, has fun with it, is nice to his fans and isn't an overall dick to people? Class act in my book, even if the music may or may not float people's boats.

That's my point. Most people aren't hating on the guy as a person. It's his music that many dislike. Sure, it's popular, but as you point out...so is Justin Timberlake's.

Such a weird critique. It's meaningless. Jeff Lynne sounds like Jeff Lynne. His work is not cookie cutter for the time by any stretch. I think his stuff sounds great, including his new stuff.

Really? You don't really like Petty that much then I don't think cause he produced 'Full Moon Fever'..I won't back down and especially running down a dream are both kickass tunes. Lynne helped write running down a dream I think.

He does have a 'sound'.  Listen to Geo Harrison's albums with him and them Petty's.  They sound like ELO with them as lead singers.  And I am totally ok with that.  I love ELO.

Of course he did, and "Full Moon Fever" was terrible. Lifelessly overproduced. For example, there's a classic "Jeff Lynne snare technique" and you get it like this. It creates a signature sound, and one that works well for ELO's lushly harmonized, vaguely-synthetic-sounding music, but it sounds like crap in garage band-type music that Petty plays. It'd be like replacing Jerry Lee Lewis' piano with a Casio keyboard -- he can still play "Great Balls of Fire" on it, but sound isn't suitable to his style.

(Now, that being said, I don't think Petty's writing on FMF was all that good, either, but the production did nothing to prop it up.)

That's not too bad. A bit repetitive, but not bad. Glad to see Newsted doing something productive.

I also don't get the Foo's hate. They are a solid rock band, maybe not hard enough for some people or whatever but Wasting Light was a solid album.

The documentary is about music history, why shouldn't he bring out a bunch of people who ARE music history? Yeah Rick Springfield is off but whatever!

Seriously. Every famous musician in a popular band would be unknown if it wasn't for the fact they were in a band that got famous.
