Bill_Wick's_Friend: caddisfly: Anybody who has ever been prescribed Oxycontin can warrant that the stuff's addictive. I was prescribed 2X40mg/day after a major oral surgery

That wasn't my experience.

Was prescribed 3X5mg per day and a fatter dose at night for kidney stone pain. Yeah, it took the pain away. It took EVERYTHING away. I was numb all over. Preferable to being in horrible gut-wrenching pain, but not fun at all. As soon as I could stop taking them I did.

I was kinda surprised, to tell the truth, since I'd heard a lot about oxy and since I generally have a strong appreciation of recreational substances. I was expecting my brain to light up with "Holy crap! Love it! Want more! More! More!" signals. Nope. Not even a little bit.

I think it was probably a mix of the low dosage and your personal chemistry. Some people simply get nauseous when they take opiates, others get all sleepy. Me? I feel absolutely fantastic and become very active, often cleaning the house or starting a new project. For some reason I also trim my nails a lot. Weird.

Anybody who has ever been prescribed Oxycontin can warrant that the stuff's addictive. I was prescribed 2X40mg/day after a major oral surgery. Completely forgot I had about 20 stitches in the roof of my mouth, but went through withdrawals after only a couple of weeks on the stuff. Can't imagine folks who snort 80mg at a time.

Actually, the people have a case, assuming the company knew the true addictive nature of the drug. From what I understand, the addictive properties of oxycontin weren't fully understood by the people, nor the doctors writing the prescriptions. The real fun thing is, like give me doughnuts has already stated, the addicts who can no longer get their fix, due to recent pill mill legislation, have just moved on to heroin.

He adds, he expects this to be a big recovery for the state.

That's code for "They make a shiatload of money and we want our cut - even if that means we condemn a generation of people to pain and suffering because we drive these companies out of the state or scare the doctors so badly they wont give you painkillers even if you had your arm amputated in a car accident..."
