I would like to have seen convicted gang rapist tortured.

Not everyone who is accused is guilty. But if he is convicted you have my blessing to SAW 12 on his happy arse.

Not everyone convicted is guilty. That's why we don't allow torture, and why most people don't allow the death penalty. Too many miscarriages of justice.

With a stick.

Even if these guys are guilty, they shouldn't be treated this way.

Not only that, it seems the state is setting up a big fail by not following procedures.

From what I hear about India, those ARE procedures.

He should consider himself lucky. He could've been the one whose victims (and there were many) stormed the court and beat him to death right in the middle of his trial.

I hope that included having a steel rod shoved in his ass for a couple of hours on a bus. Would only seem fitting.

There's pretty much no doubt they have the right guys.

They tore open her abdomen n genitals with a metal rod. She died two weeks later.

Still don't think the brutality is right but fk if I care.

No, but while I can sit up here on my high horse and say that, I can't honestly say for sure that I could bring myself to convict the guy.

yeah, yah know, I've seen that before, where there's pretty much no doubt they have the right guys.... and sometimes the guys are innocent.

I guess you cant expect yanks to say anything against illegal torture...... no doubt there's someone in washington noting down particulars for the next time they need to arrange a rendidtion

As we all know, anyone accused of any crime is automatically deserving of any and all punishments. Things like 'evidence' and 'guilt' are just made up by those soft on crime libs.

It's quite rare, but occasionally I will endorse, on an emotional level, "an eye for an eye". Unfortunately, a society may be judged by how it treats the least of its members, and it's hard to condone police brutality, since it could happen to anyone.

William Roper: So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!
Sir Thomas More: Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?
William Roper: Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!
Sir Thomas More: Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down, and you're just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!

it's never ok when a state actor is torturing anyone. police are state actors, so this shiat is horrible.

I am a relatively liberal guy (sometimes) that doesn't mind the existence of government, taxes, etc... but, I believe that the most potentially dangerous actor in society is the government. a misbehaving government will do more harm to society than all her rapists, serial killers, and terrorists combined.

From a moral and legal perspective, this is bad. He wasn't convicted with clear and irrefutable evidence absolutely proving beyond the shadow of a doubt that he is guilty. Once that had happened, I would still prefer that the justice system allow for treatment in line with some basic form of human rights, which precludes torture.

From an emotional perspective, hell yeah! Line up the biggest inmates you've got, tell the guards to turn on the Pay-Per-View cameras and let's watch the sumbiatch suffer for what he did!

...Needless to say, this is why we should strive for a moral and legal system that eliminates emotion as a motivator. Emotion's a psycho biatch.

I imagine it would be difficult to rape an entire gang, but kudos for the effort.

friends and relatives of the slain girl okay to do the dirty work? That would be my preference were I the father of that girl.

And as a father of a 3 yo girl, I can say with absolute certainty that I would go all Samuel Jackson in "A Time to Kill" were I put in that position.

I'm of very mixed emotions on this one. On one had, India has a history of abuse of women, on the other, abuse of prisons, but the Gripping Hand is that this woman was RAPED to DEATH on a public bus.

Let the punishment fit the crime.

If that were my daughter, I'd have a tough time convincing my self that killing the attackers personally would not be worth being hung for.

I read a story this morning that suggested it wasn't a public bus at all. The story I read said the gang was driving around in a bus cruising for targets.

Unless given enough baksheesh, they will kindly do the needful for these useless fellows.

From what I've heard, they were caught with the victims blood on their clothes, identified by the surviving victim, the now dead victim and an earlier victim. They were also caught with the victims cell phone. They all separately admitted to the crime - although now they all seem to be claiming they weren't the main bad guy.

As for his torture claims, their lawyer is scum who has also gone on the record saying it was the victims fault because she was unmarried and out after dark, which -in his world - means she's a whore. That lawyer will do anything to get his client off (and secure career fame for himself).

So, I doubt the rapist was tortured by the police.

But even if he endured all of what was described, I find it hard to be sympathetic to a rapist who after finishing decided to put the bent end of a tire iron up a girls rectum, hook it and then pull her intestines out.

/hangings' too good for 'em.

What's he complaining about?

Yes, but they were tortured  before they were anything more than accused. That's not justice, that's the police now quite possibly having the wrong people in custody. If they're tortured in jail, I will have a  very hard time giving a shiat, but let's  convict them first so humankind doesn't turn into a giant lynch mob.

This is India. Crime and Punishment there is completely 3rd World. And, this is where the majority of Fortune 500 companies in America are sending your jobs. Rapists apparently work for cheap.

If I had any faith in the competence of police in India, it wouldn't bother me so much.

But I don't. It took them something like 40 minutes to get her to a hospital. And if she hadn't died, we probably wouldn't be hearing about this story now.

Like authorities in other countries, they only do something about a crime when it pisses off enough people to make the people in charge look bad.
