Even though its on the outskirts of San Antonio some weird stuff happens around there. Saw a UFO one night driving with a buddy on some backroads- seen plenty of aircraft over the years since I lived near an airbase and this didn't look like anything I'd seen before. Even lost a few hours that we could never explain away.
later on that night I picked up some Canadian cowboys that had gotten stranded in front of a diner I frequented. Dropped them off near a little known helicopter base on the East side.

Still some backwoods just not as much . Lived on Short St. In Cibolo for a brief time in the mid 60s as a kid. Was great place to be a kid when they still played outside unsurpervised, just be home before dark. IIRC population was around 500 (Now about 15,000) and the business in town consisted of Fred's barbara shop, the Friendly Bar and a Feed store. We also had an Elementary School. The nearest "big" town was Schertz pop 2000 (now about 30,000) and it made Forbes best places to live list recently.

Of course back then the outer-ring fo San Antonio was Loop 410. Loop 1604 was a two lane farm road known as the death loop and was out n the country.

Oh and the nationally know speed trap of Selma is close by also.
