He just thinks he has a political winner to galvanize and unify the right after they got shattered in the election and on the fiscal cliff.  If Obama, who has shown no inclination so far to "confiscate" guns, does this in a reasonable and moderate manner (like 99% of the rest of the time he acts), then the only people who care about this will be the 30% of people who were already storing their poop in the freezer for the "end times."

This has been the standard response on the right with regards to gun control for years. It's not that surprising.

The Republican Party is officially toast.  They have no future, and I don't see them ever repairing the fractures in their party.  When you start parroting Alex Jones' talking points, you really are screwed.

I don't think Drudge, like most Republicans, knows how an executive order works. I don't think most Republicans even understand the basics of the three branches of government and how they work. I know the ones I talk to don't.

Like how UN Treaties undermine US laws and sovereignty.

Peak crazy?  That is almost a reasoned response compared the mouth breathing, drool soaked, shiat stained wadded panties I see on the Right on...well, everything.  That is just a plain old Godwinning.

I think Drudge knows exactly how an executive order works. Hes a gun pusher. All he does is terrify people into buying guns. Why anyone listens to him after Y2K I have no idea but he keeps pushing one "apocalypse" after another.

If he ends up getting taken out by some aggrieved tea partier with an AK then karmic justice will have been done.

If there's anything I've learned over the past four years, it's that we are nowhere near peak derp. There's enough out there to fuel misogynistic racist posts like that in America for the next hundred years!

Actually, Homo derpus is at serious risk of dying out. For one, many of them are old, well past the age where breeding is safe, or even possible. Fat makes genital contact difficult, even impossible, in some specimens, who only know the missionary position. The younger specimens also think their binomial name means that they are gay, so they often kill each other out of hatred. Whatever children they manage to have tend to strive to be better than their parents, and rapidly evolve into H. sapiens by adulthood. The rest are stuck believing evolution is a myth. Despite these varied threats to H. derpus, the International Union for Conservation of Nature has rated the species' conservation status as Least Concern. Since the species generally spends its time destroying other species and the environment, the scientific community accepts that the species must die off for all other life to continue existence, and that there is no value in conservation efforts.

If only derp could be harnessed to create power the US would be energy independent within a decade.

/of course then nothing could ever be done about YECs, anti-vaxxers or GOP voters without crashing the economy

This is why firearm rights are doomed. Not because gun control advocates are reasonable -- in fact, typically they are poorly informed, dishonest and irrational -- but because the most visible gun rights advocates are hyperbolic and crazy.

President thinks he can solve school shooting, theater shootings from ever occurring again, by passing assault weapons ban and large magazine ban. Now THAT"S Peak Craziness.

Politicians are just too lazy or dumb to solve problems by addressing their root causes. Easier to put a band aide on it, to make it look like they did something to actually fix the problem, when, indeed, they did not.

The problem is that the road to fixing the root involved "WHARRGARBL SOCIALISM" measures such as expanded mental health services, more dollars being dumped into medicine at large, and so on.  So until both sides of the isle can put their pet projects and constituent pandering aside and actually work together to solve some issues, meaningless and ineffective band-aid/feel good legislation will continue

I would assume, and this is just given your statement that gun control advocates are typically poorly informed, dishonest and irrational, that typically those that think gun control advocates are poorly informed, dishonest and irrational vote NRA.

But I guess we're not allowed to make typical, biased observations, only you are.

I should have qualified my statement to address "visible gun control advocates", such as the Brady Center and the Violence Policy Center. I apologize for confusion that my omission may have caused.

Such an "observation" would be an assumption that I have made the "false dilemma" fallacy.

Both "sides" are irrational and unreasonable. As such, neither "side" is credible and neither side merits a "vote".

It's not my fault you're unwilling to recognize the reasonable interpretation of your writings.

The number of people who genuinely want to ban guns is trivial and they have literally no voice in the discourse. The number of people who believe conspiracy theories about gun confiscation, new world order, and UN jackbooted thugs number in the tens of millions and are enabled by powerful lobbying fronts for arms dealers. Your lament about the inevitable death of firearm rights is beyond hyperbolic.

Claiming your interpretation to be "reasonable" does not actually demonstrate your interpretation to be "reasonable".

The percentage of advocates who believe that banning handgrips on rifles -- which are already a rarely criminally misused class of firearm -- will reduce rates of violent crime is nontrivial. Such a belief is as unreasonable as is the belief that arming teachers is a viable solution to preventing school shootings.

I for one vote that we raise the derp ceiling. I know my colleagues across the aisle would disagree, but that's because they're assholes who don't see reality for what it is.

Yet you only only stated one position. The gun control advocates as being crazy is the reason firearm rights are doomed. Nowhere did you address the other side as credible, or even existent, in your assessment of why firearm rights are doomed. Because of this bold statement, clearly aimed at one side of the debate, it's really quite rational to assume you're pro-NRA as they clearly, by your own exclusion, aren't the reason firearm rights are doomed.

Now, this both sides are bad. Well, I'll give you that as being wrong, because no where in your original statement did you give any indication that you thought both sides were bad. You just think gun control advocates are typically stupid and crazy. A typical sentiment of the gun advocates at the NRA. So the typical correlation I'm making is no different than the typical correlation you're making.

They were certainly splintering and on the way out.

Then Obama threw them a lifeline with the gun issue...

Nothing will galvanize the right more than the gun issue.

If he wants 2014 to look like 2010 then he's doing it right!
