(USA Today)   Bill Clinton named "Father of the Year" by organization that gave the same award to John Edwards and Hulk Hogan. Even Leno thinks the punchline for this one is too obvious   (usatoday.com) divider line 63

extroverted_suicide: Well maybe the Hulkster isn't the best choice of all time, but at least they didn't award it to Chris Benoit.

Be nice now. His wife was all choked up with love, and he smothered his son with attention. He could be found hanging around with them even to his dying day.

NuttierThanEver: Maybe I am missing something subby but outside of an affair nearly 20 years ago that he and his wife have obviously worked through because they are still together, what evidence do you have to imply that Clinton is not a good father. By all reports he has a great relationship with Chelsea

Hmmmmm... a great relationship? Wonder what KIND of great relationship?

I'm just asking questions here.

Hilarious to see all the humorless butthurt here from the Clinton-worshipers.

mechgreg: BKITU: zarberg: have any of you noticed that while Chelsea was kinda not at all attractive during her teenage Whitehouse years, she's actually turned out not so bad.

A "Wayne's World" skit covered that back when she was still an awkward teen. They correctly figured that she was "a babe in waiting."

/They'll have a seat right over there.
//In Wayne's parents' basement.

The funny thing is after complaints that NBC received that part of the skit (I think it was a count down) was removed. So if you see that skit in reruns the is a kind of an abrupt cut right before they mention Chelsea, then it goes straight to the next person on the list after her. And i think her name on the list is blurred out.

Yep, butthurt.

Pretty much this. I don't see any problems with Chelsea that can be attributed to Bill Clinton's parenting skills.

WHOA- WHOA- WHOA, THERE, SKIPPY...

Who said this had anything to do with just Chelsea?

Good points, undeniably true.

Clinton was walking out of the hospital after visiting his wife, and a reporter asked:

"How's her head, Mr. President?"

"Pretty good.," he replied, "but nowhere near as excellent as what I used to get off of Monica."

\\\ Aisle seat please.

ReapTheChaos: "The 42nd president is being honored for his work through the William J. Clinton Foundation "to improve global health, promote healthier childhoods and protect the environment" and for bringing "global leaders together to work on the most pressing issues," according to the committee's statement."

I thought father of the year was supposed to have something you did as a father, as in, for you children?  This looks more like a, "well he did all these great things, and he also happens to be a father" award.

That was my thought as well. The award seems to have nothing to do with actually being a father. I won't argue that Clinton was a bad dad, because Chelsea does seem to have grown up well and happy and I'm pretty sure that counts as successful parenting, but I still find the award quite odd.

Gdalescrboz: Father of the year to a guy who has kids int heir 30s? Can't get much easier than that

Pretty much this. It has been years since the guy was a father in any sense that one can be good or bad at: his fatherhood is, at this point, a geneaological footnote. There might have been serious reasons to consider him for this award 20 or even 15 years ago (though I doubt that), but at this point he's simply out of this award's supposed scope.
