(Washington Post)   Why have the Redskins not been dominant since 1992? Nope, it's not coaching, or players. Not even the owner. It's karma. And they can fix that by changing their name to the Washington "Native Americans"   (washingtonpost.com ) divider line

Well, since '92 is up for some debate, but since '99 it's almost exclusively due to a pudgy tree-cutting pompous assbag whose name rhymes with "Man Rider."

This past season, though, mainly had to do with Shanahan being a farking dumbass when it counted most.

I think he *really* screwed the pooch last weekend.
Being that oblivious/selfish/myopic won't be forgotten, or forgiven.

The LA Spics are gonna have a rough go.

So then Mr. "Sports writer" man. How do you explain the Browns?

Don't be too sure. Rats are notoriously resilient. Especially the rare orange breed.

Just change thier name to Potomac Drainage Basin Indigenous Persons

I watched that game with an Australian and a South African and they both couldn't believe that the team name/mascot was still allowed

Honestly I don't understand the problem. If you were with someone today and they said "Look at those redskins over there", and you turned around and didn't see potatoes or football players you'd have to think twice about their choice of words. As in "who the fark uses redskins for anything but potatoes or football teams?"

Also firing that guy should be karma for him having the name Courtland and sporting what can only be called an affront to mustaches.

Seriously you could put his picture on a box of Summer's Eve.

Oh look, Courtland Milloy is being a pompous, righteous gasbag in the Post again, must be Thursday.

Courltand Milloy is no Sports writer man.

Maybe the franchise should drop the "Washington" from their name.  Being associated with such a crappy and corrupt city that continues to elect Marion Barry might be hurting their karma worse than anything else.

That is what I was getting at. Two people from countries with obvious racial issues of their own thought that this was a bridge too far

I don't care either way, call your team what you want

Change the mascot to a potato and keep the name. Done.

Then assholes like this nutjob writer can finally count to "redskin".

Oh, and I wonder if the author has ever called anyone a "redneck"...

The Bills have been worse for far longer. In fact, their illustrious stretch of futility includes being beated soundly in the Super Bowl by...the Redskins.

Maybe the Bills should change their name to the Williams.

Don't be silly. "This is a new era. Attitudes are changing; progressive thinking is emerging on everything from guns, gays and gas guzzling to debt, deficits and doctor bills."

After the Feb. 7 "conversation", the owners should respond with:

"After the community conversation, it's clear that many DC residents are offended by the name Washington Redskins. Because this is a new era and attitudes are changing, we've agreed to get with the times and change our name. Beginning with the 2014 season, we shall be known by our new name; one that does away with the old thinking of offensive mascots yet retains the tradition of professional American football...

The Los Angeles Bulldogs."

Then I can have something to mock outrage over.

You know what? Screw mock outrage. As a Christian, I am actually very offended that we allow a team to be called the Lions.

Screw the Christians, can you imagine how actual lions feel to be associated with that travesty of a team? Do you think it's just a coincidence that wildebeest and gazelle populations have been on the increase for the past 40 years, right in line with the dramatic drop in respect for what was once known as the King of Beasts?

While I absolutely agree, I wouldn't want a team called "The Kikes" running around, and no one uses that one anymore either.

Give it another 100 years, I'm sure the last guy to actually use redskin in a negative fashion died before "Kike" even came into style.

I love how people who aren't a member of a particular minority group think they can judge whether or not something is offensive to that group.

"There isn't any more segregation, so why can't I say 'n****r' without someone pretending to be outraged?"

Is that wrong? Would that not go over well?

If they do change the name it will probably be as dumb when they changed the Bullets to the Wizards. I was a kid when they did that and thought "God that is stupid". Still do.

Of course, a term SOME find offensive and some find noble that merely describes someone's color (sort of like "black") and may even have come from the people it describes is EXACTLY the same as one that's universally offensive and portrays a race as a lazy sub-human animal in a comparison associated directly with racism.

So no, that would not go over well, Randal.
